Are you sure it's batik?
All the batiks I've seen are very tightly woven and considering the number of washings they are put through in the dye process, I doubt they'd use base fabric that ravels. Interesting. Just noted your posted item about it not being a true batik. Ignore my post... :lol: :lol: |
I agree with above. It sounds like this is not a cotton fabric. I don't think a cotton batik could fray even if it wanted to.

5 would at least take it back to the shop I bought it from, and see what they have to say about it, Batiks are usually a tighter weave and should not do that

Sounds like some bad quality batik - I'm thinking maybe from India. Good batik is woven tightly with a high thread count. If you're determined to get to the bottom of this, take it back to the shop and look at the bolt information, if it's still in the store. Also, show the staff what's going on.

I have never had that problem with any fabrics except ones that are part or totally polyester. Spray some water on it and then press, if it smells funny I would question the fiber content
