unusual thimble
 
Found an old thimble with a 'hangnail' on the side. What is this for?cutting thread? I've
never seen one like it before.

I'd like to see it, too... but I'm guessing it is a cutter. I remember my grandma having one - she did everything by hand - I don't think I ever saw her at a sewing machine like my mom. So I have crazy vivid memories of her doing hexies, binding and hand tying quilts.

You use it to cut the thread. Has a teeny tiny blade. If it's like the one I have.

Thanks for the info. There is a picture on google like mine for sale on EBay for $6 in the above address.
Tessagin describes it pretty well. I'll get a picture on soon.
