My first Rowenta steam generator iron lasted 6 years. It would sputter when it was first turned on. I learned to let it sputter a few seconds on a thick folded up muslin before using it on an actual project. I got this iron because the steam control was on the underside of the handle and I all needed to do was press my fingers upward to get the steam going. Perfect for those with arthritis in the thumb joint. When DH was helping me do a periodic cleaning of the iron (it's heavy!) something came loose inside, and out it went. Then I bought a new one, a slightly different model and lighter weight. This time the instructions explained that water will condense in the hose after not being used for a while. The manual says to press the trigger for a few seconds to remove the condensation before using it. So far it's been working and I have had this iron over a year.

Thought I would give an update on my iron...I have not had my Professional Shark iron even three months, and am already dissatisfied with it.
First of all, had to quit using the steam on it about a month ago, and just use a spray bottle. It splutters and spits all over creation when I have water in it and want to use steam. Then there is the auto shut-off. It automatically shuts off...the actions to turn it back on varies. I cannot just slide the lever down to turn it off and then slide it back up to turn it back on. Almost always have to set it like I am actually ironing and have the bottom of the iron hit the ironing board a pretty good tap...and a few times I have actually had to unplug it and plug it back in. I don't even feel like it gets as hot as it did for a while. I can iron and iron pieces in the same spot...and the ironing surface never gets that hot. I was at Sears the other day and checked to see if they had B&D digital advantage irons...they didn't. That is where I got my old one. I suppose I will live with this one at least for a while, but I am disappointed in it. Knowing the way our luck runs, I would go get one like my old one and get a lemon....I am forever the one that gets up to the cash register and will either have the item that doesn't have a tag on it, or the price has to be looked up, etc. Edie |

I bought a shark approx. 4 months ago to replace my 25 yr old B&D. Started leaking last month, so I am on the lookout for another iron. I am not willing to spend an arm and leg, Kohls had a sunbeam on sale so I am gonna ck that out. Good luck.

Just wanted to say: I have my iron and light plugged into a power strip mounted on the wall above the ironing board. When I iron I want a good strong light. When I want to use the iron, I switch on the power strip, and the light and iron come on. I can begin working with my fabric right away, as the weight of the iron will begin to hold the seams where I want them. As soon as the iron is hot enough, I go over those seams again, but now that goes really fast because they are half done already. When I'm finished with that ironing session, I switch off the power strip and both go off. I won't forget to turn off the iron because I can see that the light is on if I don't. |
sometimes you just have to go back to basics for a good product.i find the more expensive and more 'bells and whistles' a product has, the more problems it gives you!! Just not worth the aggravation!!

Rowenta died and went to heaven. Don't like my new B&D. Was considering an Olisio. Anyone have comments on that iron? never had a shark and now I won't consider that either. I like the old B&D without the Teflon.
