Every other Tuesday I have my 4 yr old GS. He has wanted to sew for a long time. Two weeks ago we worked on sewing with a needle and thread on felt. This week I had 4" squares cut. He picked out the colors , I lined up the fabric and used the foot pedal. He guided the fabric through the machine, raised and lowered the foot and cut the thread. We completed a 5x8 little doll quilt. He wanted it for his action figures. He was so proud to show his mom what we did today. PJ is a hyper active kid (his mom is ADD), but he was able to concentrate for over 3 hours today in 2 sessions. He sat on my lap and paid attention to what he was doing.

Wow, good work, G'ma! There is always something that will fascinate even a hyper child -- we just have to keep looking. Good for you.

Good job working with GS! He will remember that always.

what a great thing to share with your GS! He will treasure that quilt forever - and his memories of making it with him. Both of my boys can sew, they are 10 and 9, and the younger one loves it. Both will have a twin quilt hanging in our guild show this fall. One thing to do is make sure you are teaching them good habits - I find my younger son sews like I do - and I throw thread on the floor of girl cave. Which I learned from MY mother! Now, how am I supposed to have him put his threads in the thread catcher!
