Upsize 12" Block
I have downloaded a 12"block from the net and want to use it as a center for a medallion quilt.
I want to resize the block to a 26-inch block, but my maths-gene is almost non-existent.....🤔🤔🤔🤔 Would anyone be willing to resize the block for me? Pretty please?🕊💕💕💕 It is a PDF file. |

Doubling to a 24 inch block and then adding a 2 inch sash would be more practical.

very pretty pattern!

I agree with Deb. Doubling the size of everything to make a 24 inch finished block is easiest. Then you can make your borders any size necessary to fit with the next round of blocks. Thanks for the link.

What a pretty block! I see why you want to feature it as the center medallion of a quilt. Please post your finish or at least progress. It will encourage all of us.

If you make a 24 inch block you would need to add 1 inch sash on all sides to get it to 26.

Such a gorgeous block. I'd love to have a entire quilt made of this block...I have enough reds to make each one different. Just have to find the time! Thanks for posting...another one on my bucket list!

My only suggestion is that if you double the size of the block, including the appliqué cherries, you may need to change both the stems and how the cherries are sewn on. For the stems, instead of using a stem stitch, I would appliqué on narrow bias stems. The stem stitch is likely too narrow to visually support the larger cherries and leaves. For the cherries, I would use a blanket stitch around the edges in addition to (or instead of) the centered star stitch.
It’s a lovely block and should make a great medallion. |
You need a Proportional scale. i don't think increasing by percentage will be accurate. Close enough for a quilt block though.

It's a beautiful block. Thanks for sharing with us.

So just to brush off my brain cells....
26/12 = 2.1667 so all your measurements would have to be multiplied by 2.1667 to give you a 26" block. Much easier to multiply by 2 and add that 1" sashing, right? Or am I wrong about multiplying each measurement by 2.1667? If you had a 26" block and wanted to shrink it down to 12" you would divide 12 by 26 to get your multiplier for the sides..... I think. |
You need to increase the finished size of each piece and then add back they seam allowances Beautiful block

Thank you all for your input....I will double the sizes on the pattern as suggested. Have a wonderful day!💕💕💕

DebLuvs and CJ -- it is not a straightforwards multiplication of the 2.5 block measurements. Yikes! Thank you! My method would take a 2.5 in measurement andupsize it to a 5.something square so ultimately it would be much bigger than 26 inches. Time to do some more brain dusting! What a great brain teaser! Double the size of the finished block then add seam allowances. Good thing I have never tried to change the size of a pattern.

The .5 is the seam allowance (.25 around each edge of the block) if you are just doubling the pattern, you would only double the first number. A 2.5 block doubled becomes a 4.5 block. A 4.5 block doubled, becomes an 8.5 block, doubling the 8.5 block becomes a 16.5 block and so on.
Note: I'm just showing the math to double a block. |
