has anyone ever used crochet cotton to satin stitch the edges of quilted potholders/placemats instead of binding the edges?

i am not very good at putting on binding.

if so do you put the cotton through the tension guide.

any help would be appreciated.

hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season.

Wouldn't that be too thick? I think thicker threads are usually wound and used in the bobbin and then you sew on the wrong side of the fabric.

You might have better luck trying this with machine quilting thread, it is a little thicker, if that is what you are looking for.

Have you considered either a knife edge finish

or an escape hatch finish http://www.fibermania.blogspot.com/2...ch-finish.html
Neither one uses binding at all and both are great for small projects or irregular shapes.
