To those of you who are ridding yourself of unwanted fabrics- consider donating to local quilt guilds or other organizations that do charity quilts.

this happens to my mother with yarn. She has made over 100 afghans and most of the yarn has been given to her.

So far this moratorium has kept me from buying a $35 kit and fabric I won't have time to sew in the next ten years! It wasn't easy, but I did it, and it feels good to not have two more unstarted projects hanging over my head! Thank you.

I'm in. I've been doing this as much as possible for the last 2 years. I've had 3 goals this last year: to tackle some of my UFO's, to use as much as possible from my stash, to use up scraps. With only a couple of exceptions the only fabric I have bought is to buy backing or sashing. However, People keep giving me scraps so I don't know if that has gone down much. For the scrap quilts I do try to do pieced backs. amazing how much of those odd 1-2 yard pieces that can use up.

I'm merging and purging two homes into one - so a lot of stuff had to go. I'm in. Use What You Have is my new motto.

I just packed up all of the broadcloth that I bought before I got smart enough to use cotton only. My DGD (11) is learning to sew and is delighted to have her own little stash. I'll add a few bits of patterned cotton to keep it interesting.
I'm down to two Rubbermaid towers and a bit of flannel in another drawer. Two of the drawers are my applique fabric, another is for landscape quilts, three are scraps. Exciting! I'll be able to find a pattern and shop for it soon:) Just have to finish those UFO's.

Sounds like beneficial fun, my stash could use being scaled down! Count me in..

I will do a fm 2013 - if only for the reason that I want to save my kids some heartache when I pass and they find my stashes hidden in all sorts of areas. I am a pack rat - I don't like clutter, so I "put things away" but never remember where I put them. When I was changing the summer clothes to the winter clothes, I found the extra backing yardage for a gift quilt. Well, when that quilt was finished this summer, I couldn't remember where the heck I put the extra backing yardage. Since the fabric was "oop" - I has to pay top Ebay prices - for 3 1/2 yards. Now I have extra - maybe I should sell it on Ebay!!.
