Although this does happen, you also want to beware of scams. Make sure you can go look at the actual machine (don't fall for the "I'm in Florida...". I've seen scams with similar stories. If I am interested I always ask "Where is the machine located?". If it is in an impossible viewing location, I don't continue the conversation.

Terri D, this is an older post but wondered if the machine had to be taken into a shop to see how many hours it has been used or can someone check that out for themselves before they buy it?

I have a friend who has done this.

I did the same thing when I bought my frame. I knew i couldn't put it together. i bought it online so no help there. It sat for 2 years and then i called my local Baby Lock dealer. They came out and set it up, adjusted my Juki 2010 on the carriage, charged a very reasonable price, way less than I expected. Not all dealers are proprietary! And they have a very happy, frequent customer!

Sometimes its a gift from someone and the new owner either doesn't want it, or they are afraid of it. So the machine never gets used.
