I am going do a fussy cut and applique it to a quilt block.

My question is: If after fusing the fussy cut to the block and if I use the blanket stitch will it fray when washed?

I don't expect the quilt to be washed much being it is a wall hanging memory quilt. But either way I don't want it to fray?

The blanket stitch helps alot but there can still be a little fraying.
Try out another decorative stitch on your machine if you have one... I used one on mine that is fairly narrow but covered almost all of the raw edges and it looked really cute too. A narrow zig zag works well too :wink:

Do you think if I put a thin line of frey check that would solve the fraying when washed?

I love fray-check. Just a thin band along the edge solves fraying problems without making extra stiffness. I pull the backing paper off, run the fray-check along the edge, and then fuse, but I doubt if it needs to be done in a specific order.

I keep forgetting about fray check!!! :oops: I have a bottle of it too!!! :roll:

I use a double blanket stitch with very fine thread and set the stitches to be wide so the applique is well insice the stitch and at the same time short so they are very close to each other. Because I use thin thread it doesn't look bulky. It depends in part what you are making, some times you want the bulky look.
