using bridal tulle to mark quilts

I have read that one can use bridal tulle to trace your pattern onto creating a stencil...then lay it over the quilt and use a marking pencil or those washable crayolas to mark the quilt.

Has anyone used the tulle as a stencil? How satisfactory is it?

I know the washable crayolas are great for marking but wonder about the tulle stencil. Right now I'm using Press n Seal to trace my pattern onto...but sure get tired of all that tracing..a stencil that I can mark through would sure be great. Homemade stencil of course...I don't want to buy one if I can help it. LOl I try to keep costs down so my husband doesn't complain. <grin>

Yes you can, but you need to use the right colours of tulle for your markings to show. sewcalgal had a gentleman on her challenge last year who did a demo on it, I'll see if I can find a link.

Wow, I like this. I've been meaning to follow this series- FMQ Sew Cal Gal-but there aren't enough hours in a day :(

I've been doing it for years, and I'm really happy with the results. I use a black sharpie on white tulle, and once the sharpie is dry I trace my design with chalk pencils. I usually have to refresh the lines, but it's a great way to transfer a complicated design.

Do you use the washable felt marker crayolas? ( I'm sure glad you started this thread!)
