using HST in an Arkansas Crossroads quilt
 

In the tidying up of my sewing room, I came across a bag of 2 1/2 HST from the Friendship triangle exchange about 6 years ago.....I know. I am guessing there may be anywhere from 500 to 700 of them. Looking for a pattern to use them and in reading the posts today, I saw the quilt jmoore is working on, Arkansas Crossroads, loved the look of it and had to do a search, and found it uses 2 1/2 inch squares. Then Irishrose 2 mentioned she is working on one too in a response to Joe who is looking for scrappy ideas.
My question is has anyone made one using 2 1/2 HST? Or if you have any ideas of how to use those Friendship triangles, I would love to hear them.

There is no reason you can't make an Arkansas crossroads using 2 1/2 HST. Your squares would also need to be this size. You can also make something using the shaded 9 patch block (aka split 9 patch) Here are some ideas for you. https://www.google.com/search?q=shad...iw=885&bih=732

I made this quilt using unfinished size HST of 2 1/2" but you would have to make more to make one as big as this. It contains 1,152 HST. This is not Arkansas crossroads though.

You can easily make a quilt that looks like Arkansas crossroads using a split 9 patch (aka shaded 9 patch) Put 4 split 9 patch blocks together and you get the arkansas crossroads block. Like this illustration

I, too, have a collection of these HS triangles from an exchange and am looking for a design to put them together without adding a lot of other fabrics. They are assorted fabricns with a light/dark combination in each square. Haven't had the courage to lay them out yet to see what I could do with them.

Thanks everyone for your help. I wanted to make something that did not require cutting a lot of other pieces, so the Arkansas Crossroads appealed to me in that I would not need to cut a lot of other size pieces. But thanks to you, I think the split nine patch may only need a couple of "plain" squares to complete. Since I have so many of those triangles, I will make a "practice block" of each pattern to see what works best. Will let you know the outcome.
IowaStitcher, we can't be the only ones with bags of those little triangles! It was a world wide swap. I did make one quilt using them but barely dented the collection I had.

It will work. I have made two but don't recall how many I used. As with all things quilty, it all depends on the size of the finished quilt. Made a lovely finished quilt. Go for it!

I have made this pattern twice. The block is called by several names but I know it as English wedding ring. It consist of blocks made with half-square triangles. One quilt is a pattern called Romance by Eleanor Burns. I had over 250 half-square triangles left over when I paper pieced another quilt. Not sure how it would look made scrappy. You could lay out a blocks, take a picture and see what you think or better yet if you have Electric Quilt you could make the pattern up scrappy.

This is great, but if you look at the original picture, it seems that the four corners of this block are the corners of the next block.
