I'm getting ready to quilt a Lone Star with a lot of bright colors. I wondered about using invisible thread to quilt the star. Have some of you done this and what brand thread did you use? Will I have to run the thread horizontally? Should I use a thread net? What about tension adjustments?

Just thought I'd ask before I start!

my fear about invisible thread is that the cut off ends might 'stick' someone. i'll be checking back for others' experiences with it.

I have used invisible thread on the longarm lots of times. I do NOT use the NYLON. It is stiff and feels like fishing line.

I use MONO POLY. I prefer using SUPERIOR MONO POLY and my second choice is using YLI.

You will use a very LIGHT tension when using monopoly. Both companies offer monopoly in clear and smoke.

If you are using this on bright colors, you may want to consider using the smoke color.

Is monopoly shiny? I just used Guterman's nylon and thin thought it be, it is shiny and pokey-uppey. Ugh

nylon is like using fishing line- and when it breaks it is pokey (like those oh so annoying tags in clothes that poke into your skin constantly
the mono-poly invisible threads are not - pokey- they are softer- like thread
you need a less tension- sometimes need to slow down- and use the needle recommended for the chosen thread.
clear is good on light fabrics/smoke on darker fabrics.
if you buy some from Superior threads they will send you a wonderful needle/thread chart that explains what needles to use with what threads-and the sizes for different applications-for free..it is a great resource!

I ordered some clear monopoly from Sew Thankful and also some yellow-gold from the Ricky Timms collection. I haven't completely decided to which I'll use. The background is black, so I'm starting on the background now. I'll have to take a break and work on something else until the thread comes in. It's a wallhanging, 45" X 45". Here's a picture that I've posted before....just now getting around to quilting it!

ALWAYS use polyester and NOT nylon. Superior threads is superior, as is YLI thread. Lakeside Quilting (Donita Reeves) carries a very thin (and I do mean thin) thread which she uses instead of invisible thread and it comes in colors and works fabulously. Sorry can't remember the name but I'm sure it's on her web site. I'm not home so can't check the name. One small spool goes a looking wY. Can get a sampler box of 5 different colors ver reasonably priced. Hope this helps.
