Using iron on vinyl

I want to make this and hang it outside on a flagpole. Will iron on vinyl work to protect this?

Wow, I didn't even know you could use a hot iron on vinyl. Ha.

My first thought is the vinyl might protect it from rain, but the sun will fade it. You might have better luck with ripstop nylon, which is weather resistant and, in my experience, takes much longer to fade.

I think peel and stick will work. Pretty sign

There is a "Wonder Under vinyl. I so know that most of the Hancock Fabrics carries it, in the interfacings.

I have ironed vinyl using a very low heat and a towel as a pressing cloth. I am talking about regular thick vinyl that we used to make little binding holders. There were wrinkles in the vinyl and that was the only way to smooth it out.

Haven't used the iron on variety yet though.

I have used the iron on vinyl. I have used it on a paper ( made a Diamondback bag to take to the games. Made paper copies of shirts, logos, old tickets and even a baseball card of my all time fav player) and on fabric. It comes with a paper you use to keep on top. You only iron on the paper and it peels off when you are finished. All the info was on the paper. Not hard..you just have to remember not EVER to touch the vinyl directly. The paper has to be on top. I would think it would make your flag pretty water proof. You will have to figure out what to do about the binding, so the water does not soak thru from the top.
