Using kitchen cabinet for the base of longarm set up
 

Hi there,
My first frame was a HQ adjustable. It's basically a set of pole and rail you install on a table. My hubby figured out that it would be better to have it installed on kitchen cabinet to store thread, fabric etc. My in-laws where renovating their kitchen, we recycled their cabinets. I got the nicest storage set up under my longarm. It worked wonderfully for me for a few years!
This was a 10 years old gentled used set up, I've made a hundred quilts on it, so now it is a bit worn out.
I found a Bernina frame (it's from Grace I believe) for an unbelievable 100$ price, so I snatch it.
Now I'm wondering if I could do the same with this frame (put the rails and pole on top on my cabinets instead and get rid of the metal frame).
Anyone ever tried something like this? Am I the only one who can't bear the idea of all this space left unused?

I guess it would depend on the frame. With my Grace frame, all the poles are attached to a flat steel frame on each end. The rails that the carriage ride on are attached to a separate frame. So if those 2 frames could be attached to the cabinets and maintain the same spatial relationship it possibly could be done. Don't know if the frame you purchased is designed the same way.
Having said this, the area under most frames that are set up properly is pretty wide open. I have tons of stuff stored under mine, but in tubs. Maybe not as convenient as the cabinets, but still really roomy.
I guess you will have to analyze your new purchase and decide.
