Has anyone ever used Organ needles in their Viking Designer SE? Schmetz needles are recommended.
|
Have not heard of Organ needles. Always use Schmetz in my Viking Designer II.
|
Recommended doesn't mean required or only. Organ needles are pretty good needles. I have used the titanium ones for embroidery.
|
Organ is the top of the line needles. I love the titanium coated ones, they last much longer then the regular needles. Most new machines come with Organ needles.

I use Organ needles in everything...
and besides all my vintage Singers I also have a Brother 2003D and Singer XL1000 embroidery machines and a Bailey mid-arm machine .. so when I say everything, I mean everything http://www.allbrands.com/products/abc0609.html |
I love Organ Needles, have used them for years with my embroidery and recently with regular sewing. I bougt them originally from a place in N.C. on the net and paid like a $1.00 for a package of 5. Does that tell you how long ago it's been
|
Just went to this site (allbrands) and in their introduction they said Organ needles are designed specifically for machines made in Japan/Asia. They recommend Schmetz for European made sewing machines and Brazilian made needles for Singer sewing machines.
So . .. has anyone actually used Organ needles in a Viking? I'm hesitant to use these needles if they aren't meant for a European machine. |
i use organ in 2 janomes and in my viking. have done for oh, 20? years.
|
I have a Designer SE, a Designer 1, and a Sapphire 870. I use Organ needles in all of them with no trouble. My husband is (was...retired due to health issues) a sewing machine technician and he puts Organ needles in the machines he services too.
|
Thank all of you for your replies. I ordered some Organ needles last night.
|
I love organ needles. My embroidery machines do better with those than any other kind.

I have never heard the name Organ before. Can this be used on all Brother sewing machines?

Look at your needle in your machine, if the part that fits into the hole to tighten it is round, then choose the round shank, otherwise it's probably the flat shank. Also I get the needles for home embroidery machine, but I use them for sewing too. Hope this helps. I have a Bernina so I don't know about Brother. |

The only needles I saw at allstitch were for embroidery machines. Do you use them for sewing on a regular machine? Do Organ needles come in different applications?

Yes, I use them to sew everything too. They seem to be a little stronger than sewing needles that bend more easily. I use them in my kenmore and bernina. The lady at the bernina store is the one who told me I can use them for sewing too, she does. Now if you want a smaller hole, they have sizes smaller than the 75/11 too. |
Thank you. Sounds like I should check them out.
|
You're welcome.

I'm really confused! Went to Allstich.com and it is the commerical machine needles (ball point) that I find are priced 100 for 14.95. The ones for the home machines are listed at 100 for $43.95. What am I missing?

I get the 5th and 6th ones down. Does this help? |
Definitely! Now, one more question as this needle thing always confuses me. What do I want for regular piecing, quilting, embroidery. I see by the board that some use these for everything, but I never can decide what size...80/12, 75/11. I use gutterman polyester thread for most piecing, Isacord for embroidery. Any guidance would be appreciated.
|
Can you use these on regular sewing and on quilts? I don't know how to use embroidery on my machine yet. I agree with Nursie76 because I do not know what kind of needles to choose due to lack of experience.

Generally speaking, I use the 80/12 for most everything, even yenmet metallics. I have a kenmore and bernina. |
That is very helpful. Thank you. So if I were to embroider on a towel (hand towel, bath towel, terrycloth in general) I should use a ball point?
