I have been spending the past few days cleaning out my stash of fabrics - all kinds. I used to sew a lot (other than quilting) so have a good size stash of rayon and mixed blends. Has anyone ever used rayon for a quilt? Does it work? I hate to get rid of it because some of it is really pretty but don't think I will be making anymore clothes.

Have used other than cotton, I try not to use anything stretchy, probibly try not to mix many blends, or light weight w/heavy..... Go for it!! :)

You can certainly use anything you like. The things to consider are how the quilt will be used and if the fabric will hold up to whatever that usage and washing are going to be.

You might make some sample blocks to see which fabrics play nicely together or what interesting texture combinations actually work well.

Crazy quilt time!!! All fabrics are used and embellished with lace, stitches, beads, etc. Just stabilize!

I ironed some very stretchy rayon to a thin interface before I used it in a quilt
It's been laundered several times and has held up.

I was going to say I LOVE rayon, for clothes, I think if you used a light fusible innerfacing on it , it would be fine in a quilt.

I used some years ago and the only issue was after many washings, it frayed and I had to repair the seam by hand. I used a 3/8" or 1/2" seam allowance. So, I would say use a light interfacing or use the crazy quilt technique of top- stitching over the seams.

Let me further clarify by saying it was used in a scrappy quilt of various sized blocks that was tied together, not quilted.

I would probably do foundation piecing with rayon fabrics.

I have a bunch of my favorite blouses that I want to make into a quilt. I saved them because I loved the fabrics. Some of them are rayon. I don't know if the quilt will get a lot of use. For me it'll be more of a memory quilt. The suggestion to use an interefacing sounds like a good idea.
