When the sun and warm weather come again.............I agree, hang the fabric outside. I always ask myself, would I want my grandchildren to receive it?

I am glad that you are making progress with the fabric. I do think that a frank discussion with the local Project Linus coordinator is in order. Your chapter certainly does not want to be giving out quilts that cause health problems. For certain those quilts should not be given to children in hospitals whose breathing health may already be compromised. There may be other delivery locations that are not as critical.

It seems to me that your chapter may want to designate you as the "smell tester", because other people may not be able to detect any problem at all and you could catch the problem quilts before they go out.

Try a little bleach, mix it with water and pour it in the bleach hole when you rewash it.

Otherwise a lightly scented detergent (nothing strong like Tide).

How much vinegar do you all use in a top=loading washer?

A while back someone was asking about getting odors out of fabric. The suggestion was to add ammonia to the wash water. I tried it and it worked! I had always used vinegar, but I use ammonia now. It seems to work faster. Give it a try.

I would start with a cup...

I used a cup of vinegar in a medium load - that worked for me today. In hindsight, I probably should have soaked it before I washed it! Just didn't think to smell-test it before I put it in.

I like the idea of being the Smeller Queen for my Linus group - I will discuss it with the higher-ups!

If the vinegar doesn't tame the odor you might try a cup of ammonia and washing detergent. Ammonia scent won't linger but will certainly take care of lots of odors.

Like you I am too sensitive to odors. I got a coat that was infused with fabreze and I couldn't wear it or get the smell out. My sister suggested unscented spray and wash liquid added to wash and I tried it with shout free and it helped. I couldn't find spray and wash but I can wear the coat now. Might be worth a try.

Air them outdoors for a day, if possible.
