Using ribbon for quilting

I have a lot of ribbon (narrow and wide) that I would like to use up. Has anyone used ribbon for quilting . Is it ok or is it recommended?

You could use silk ribbon and do big stitch. Other ribbon would be much harder to pull through layers.

Ribbon would be hard to do the actual quilting with. I'm not sure I'd want to use silk ribbon because I don't know if it washes well. Grograin would probably wash well. Satin ribbon less so.

If you were doing a crazy type quilt you could do many things with the ribbon-crouching, embroidery, bead/ribbon, etc...

I've seen some exquisite wallhangings and crazy quilts embellished with embroidery ribbon flowers.

You could couch ribbon for a surface design and you could use ribbon in a Celtic design block. Ribbon would also make a nice flange in the binding or between blocks.
