Using Two Designs For Quilting

I'm almost ready to sandwich and quilt a DNP. Since it has such straight lines I was thinking of doing SID but was also thinking of doing a small design inside the squares. Would that make it lumpy? If I do two, which should I do first?

I don't see why it would be lumpy. Just keep it simple and it should be great.

Not at all; I almost always do at least some SID before doing FMQ. The SID helps stabilize the piecing and really shows off the quilt. The FMQ adds wonderful texture.

Should work fine. I 'd do design first.

It would be fine. Normally you want to do SID first to stabilize the quilt sandwich, then add designs.

It's very common to SID first, then do additional designs after the quilt is stabilized.

I usually SID first to stabilize then go back and do 'the fancy stitching' Works for me!

Fons and Porter even suggest doing SID with water soluable thread if you don't want it as part of the overall quilting before doing FMQ.
