I have used the rubber band on my Janome 7700.

It just doesn't make sense to me that so many machines/walking feet do not hold the guide bar tight. Both my Viking and my Bernina are made to accept (and tighten) a guide bar with or without their walking feet. Are the newer machines made with so many bells and whistles that they forgot to include the common sense basics?

put tape on the end where you want. If it moves you can then just slide into place easily.

I have had the same problem with 3 different ones. 2 for the Brothers I used to have & 1 on a Singer. None of them held tight. The overall deign was a good thought but not enough planning on the making of it. I just either mark them with my Frixions or use the painters tape. Both work well with no hassles.

I just discovered this handy little tool too, LOVE it! No marks on the quilt, yay!!!

I don't know about the Janome walking foot, but the Bernina one I have definitely has a set screw on the back that snugs the bar in place. Check the back of your mechanism to see if there's a screw or a place for one. I will try to take a picture to show what I mean.

Here's a picture. I hope this works for you.

I have a Janome 8200 and my bar sits very tight in the walking foot -- almost to tight -- so there is no moving. Maybe wrap a piece of tin foil or saran wrap around it to make it fit tighter.
