Value Finder

Can someone tell me where I can purchase a value finder? I have a grayscale, I'm trying to find the red plastic that you hold over fabrics to determine values.

There are plastic glasses that are made for this use. Your shops can order a pair for you. They are not expensive.

Amazon carries a variety of hand held items and glasses. Just put 'value finder' in their search.
I have the red/green set. I like red fabrics and the red filter doesn't always work!

I bought a Ruby Beholder made by That Patchwork Place:

Thanks, I will now make a purchase.

Or just go to Staples and buy a red report cover. Bigger, cheaper, and just as good at showing you color values. Splurge and get a green one too, for the red fabrics. lol

Great idea, I tried Staples but they don't carry the covers. I did find transparent film red and green at Dock Blick so I think I'll drop by tomorrow.

I have the glasses and they work great but they do make me dizzy if I wear them too long.

Any red clear plastic will work. I used the red side of the 3D glasses that came in a cherries box for years.

I have this set too--bought it on eBay.

MSQC carries the red plastic glasses, too.

If you have a smart phone, take a picture in black/white. It will show the values very well.

Just what I was going to suggest. I used the colored report covers incl. yellow, blue and green when I was teaching to help my students who were struggling with their reading - these are especially good for students who are dyslexic. Blue seems to help boys a lot in this area. These can usually be found at Wal Mart and other stores that carry office or school supplies.

Go to an Art Supply Store. They have them.

Onebyone 04-14-2015 09:01 AM

It's not easy to find the transparent folders in stores now.

roserips 04-14-2015 09:41 AM

Actually I really like just using my phone and taking a picture in gray scale or black and white which shows me the value of the fabrics I have picked out together. That way I don't have more things to keep track of.

Of course-- using your phone which is reasonable, conveniently on your person and doesn't add to the clutter of your sewing space-- can and will be misconstrued by shop owners, apparently, and you will have to ask for permission first. . .
