Variegated thread

I love these colorful variegated threads and to see how the colors would show up I made a sampler with some of my fancy stiches I have on my sewing machine: so I can see how the colors will be when using these yarns!

What a great idea. I bought a box of variegated thread from massdrop and should do this. I love using it for quilting.

Good idea to use it for the fancy stitches. I bought some King Tutt variegated thread at a Stitch & Knot show last year and they had a panel of the threads but had only used a meandering quilt stitch. It think what you've dint shows the treads really well x
thanks

That's a great idea! I should really do that as I'm always shocked by how they come out when doing a satin stitch or something. Also would probably make me use those lovely decorative stitches if I could see how they will come out!

Good idea. Be sure to write down the length and width setting that you stitched.

That's a great idea, since different brands and lines of variegated thread vary on the intervals between colors and this will give you an idea of how they will look. Also, write down what brand and line (i.e. Superior, King Tut) to identify for future use.

Great idea! I have made stitch charts for my machines before, but haven't done it for the variegated threads. Super!

Great idea. I especially like the idea of using a variety of stitches on the machine as well as the different variegated threads to see what different stitches look like. Then it might be easier to make choices for projects. I really enjoy using the different stitches on my machine for a different kind of embellishment.

I love variegated thread!!! that's a great idea! now I only have to get the gumption to do it :)

chris_quilts 05-06-2015 08:57 AM

What brand of thread were you using? I do love your idea.

SusanSusan33 05-06-2015 10:22 AM

I love the "rainbows" brand of verigated thread form Superior. I bought some from Connecting threads and although the colors are wonderful it took so long to get to the next color you really miss the actual verigated look, in my opinion...

That was definitely a fantastic idea. Thanks for sharing as I like to use variegated thread in my quilting.

Caroline94535 05-06-2015 03:59 PM

A simply brilliant - pun intended - idea. I love it, and am going to shamelessly copy it!

jitkaau 05-06-2015 07:07 PM

Trouble is it is too expensive to use on samplers. I put it directly onto the project as one can use at least $40 worth on a quilt.

Are you sure you want to know? LOL. It's a site where they host group buys to get items for a better deal. Sometimes it's not a great deal and sometimes it is-just depends on the item. I have bought two 12-pks of aurifil thread and a superior thread holder. So far. Just google massdrop for more info.

I do machine emb and love the varigated thread, on my serger too. I put the name and color of thread into my software and pull up the design to see how it will emb on fabric. Its really a good idea to do this and like you did with your thread because not all varigated thread comes off the thread the same way. This way you know what you are getting before sewing. Great idea

Very clever idea.
