I'm in love with Sulky's Polylite thread and I get it at Jo-Ann's when it is on sale. Just stocked up when they had their 50% off spools and got some beautiful varigated colors. Also like Superior and I could easily become a thread junkie, but with already being a fabric nut I'd better not.

I have a 1200 yd spool of Coats & Clark cotton machine quilting thread in varigated pastels (use it for baby quilts). I probably bought it 2 or 3 years ago and I don't remember where I got it. Maybe they don't make it anymore?

I LOVE King Tut from Superior Threads. 100% Extra-Long Staple Egyptian Cotton. It seems expensive, but a spool does a LOT of quilting. I buy it at my LQS but it's available online too.

I too love YLI varigated thread.

I use King Tut and buy from Nancy's Notions on line. She sells great quality threads. Also always looking on ebay and on line shops. Love my varigated thread!

I get STAR thread (it's from Coats and Clarks) and I usually pick it up at Beverly's.

I've had some really nice variegated from YLI - also from Superior Threads. I don't even bother going out looking anymore - I just order what I need on line.

I buy my thread form Superior Thread (on-line). Love their thread and never a problem. I also like their site. They give clear directions on how to use their thread (like what thread to use with what needle). I keep a folder and print out their info.

The Brothers Rep at classes I've taken says that polyester thread is his favorite for embroidery - not rayon. It's shiny like rayon, has virtually no lint (the big problem with cotton) and comes in a wonderful variety of colors. For that reason, I've become a BIG fan of Superior's Rainbow variegated thread. I LOVE Superior's Bottom Line bobbins, too. I stock up on both Rainbow and bobbins at quilt shows where Superior usually has great prices! Otherwise, I order from their web site.

I use a verigated cotton thread for quilting. I like Sulky Blendables. I use a rayon verigated thread for embroidery. I buy both from my LQS.

Rayon is the classic embroidery thread. The downside to rayon is that most Rayon is not colorfast, so you must be careful when washing any projects with rayon thread due to the potential color bleed. I love to hand quilt with varigated threads, sometimes I do decorative embr. on my regular machine with them to.

I like King Tut,YLI,Gutterman and Valdani varigated threads.

I've bought it at Wal-Mart, JoAnn's and Keepsake Quilting, some were rayon and some cotton. I like using it a lot, especially on baby quilts, or when I want to jazz up a fairly ordinary quilt.

I get my King Tut (2,000yds) from KenQuilt - it's 17.95 opposed to $24.95 on the Superior Thread site and that makes a BIG difference to me - but the King Tut is excellent.

so, on an all cotton quilt, such as the ones that most of us do, what would be your recommendation? when i bought my LA, the owner recommended King Tut with Bottom Line. the Leah Day blog said use the same top and bottom.

YLI Machine Quilting variegated thread is what I use. It is 110% Egyptian long staple cotton. Get mine usually from an LQS in Wichita when I'm there for work. Hancocks of Paducah also carries it.

I get mine from Joanns. I think it's a blend. It's been a while, but I like the depth of color the store keeps.
