Varigated thread
Is it "out of style"?? Connecting threads used to sell it.I love it for wall hangings but never see it anywhere!
Try Threadart. I've found it there.
sulky makes a lot of variegated
Last trip to Joanns I was looking looking at it. They has both sulky and the coats and clark variegated That was about a month ago.
Connecting Threads hasn't sold it in years. They said it didn't sell well.
I think it gives a very pretty look to stippling patterns on quilts. I love YLI's variagated, but Coats and Clarks makes a nice one at Joanns. The Superior Threads one is also amazing. |
Superior along with others sell it.
I love variegated thread.. or at least what I think is variegated thread. I have purchased from Fabric.com and I LOVE it. Many different colors and it seems to be very good quality.

This web site has tons of sewing items at very good prices. I saw some variegated thread on there this morning. |
I looked for this in JoAnn's last week also and only found the small spools. I thought it would be nice
to use on a string/scrappy quilt. |
I love variegated threads... I use Superior , and when Jo'anns has thread for 1/2 price buy the coats & clark 100 percent cotton. My thread stash is starting to get out of control with all the choices.
My favourite thread to quilt with is Sulky's Blendables http://www.sulky.com/thread/thread_blendables.php
Sulky has expanded their Blendables line of variegated thread several times since it came out in 2009. Perhaps CT should reconsider their decision to stop production. :)

Of course not! I love using variegated threads. It brings a whole new meaning to creativity IMHO. |
I use variegated threads a lot because it take the guess work out of which color do I go with and they blend really well.
Our Joanns has it in Maxi-Lock and if you google Maxi-lock varigated thread I am sure you will find it. I love it.
It is still available. Blendables is one of my favorites. I have used it for both machine quilting, and for applique. I hope it stays available forever!
I love Superior's Rainbows. Or I did till the last spool I had, which didn't play well at all. But usually it sews like a dream, so I'm hoping that one was a one-off bad one.
I really like and enjoy using Sulky blendables cotton in handquilting I use both the 12 wt and 30 wt.The 30 wt I sometimes use 2 threads together.
I just picked up 3 different colors of variegated Aurifil threads from fabric.com. I know Superior Threads carry a lot- I even have it in silk threads- so I don't think it is 'going out of style' our local Joann's carries a lot of variegated thread too.
I really like superior King Tut for fmq - not piecing
Saw it at my local JoAnn's this weekend.
I have gotten it at JoAnn's and online at Superior Threads. I like what I got from Superior better.
I love quilting with variegated
I use the YLI variegateds on my long arm. I do mostly charity quilts and find the variegateds will blend in with all the colors in the quilt. I love the look it gives.
YLI has some great variegated. It is made in the US and has 3000 yrds in stead of 2000 yrds in King Tut (superior) and costs about 5.00 less a spool.
Good ole Coats and Clarks makes it and Jo Ann carries it. Jo Ann also has other brands--Sulky for one. I bought two spools of Coats and Clarks variegated last week and it looks great on the piece I made. froggyintexas

I hope it never goes out of style. I haven't used it in a long time. We had issues with it on our old longarm and just never used it on the new on until lately. My mom used it on a project and it turned out beautiful. I have to save some money up so I can order some more. :)

I have been loving the "Rainbow" from Superior! I need to go to Joannes while they have their thread 50% off and see what I can find there. :D
I've seen it at JoAnn's. The quilt shop I visit has it in King Tut.
Superior and Sulky both sell beautiful varigated threads. I love them when I want my quilting to show in patterns. I just finished a panel and FMQ a floral motif in each square using gold varigated thread, turned out great.
I still have some of Connecting Thread's variegated thread. Wish they'd come back with it again as I'm afraid to use it on a quilt and not have enough to finish it. Only use it for custom quilting when I need only a little. They seem to keep changing their colors as I notice in my stock pile having only 1 spool of a certain color. When I knew I would need more of one of those colors, I went online requesting for anyone having a spool of that particular color if they were willing to part with it for a price. I eventually acquired 4 spools of the color only to find out later that CT had some in the warehouse but just didn't have it online to sale. It came up on one of their many thread sales though. I paid $5/spool plus shipping as I wanted this color badly. Just my luck but now I have plenty to finish the project.

I love variegated thread to quilt with.
I love to piece with it especially the natural color. I am told YLI will soon have a variageted in light to med grey.
I also use it in the bobbin for crib quilts. Gives a bit of jazz to the solid backs. |
