What is the typical percentage,"cut", or commission vendors charge for displaying and selling quilts for the designer? I know there is good advice out there amongst you all.
I asked a couple people around here and they told me they would charge me 10%. Really didn't think it was all too bad.
Dunno about other places. |
I would expect it to vary depending on the customer base the store has. For a store that is very well known and has a lot of customers, I would expect to pay a lot more than for a wee store that no one has heard of.
Around here, it is more like 50%. Barely pays.
I think that this varies from place to place and area to area. You would probably have to do some research in your area or where you are planning on trying to sell them.

Thank you all for the valuable info. It is as I thought. I will "look around". |
I don't know about quilting, but in other arts, it depends on what the vendor does for you. I'm sorry but I don't have time to go in details for you... time is of the essence with my LO soooo here is what I've seen 30% if you're lucky and as high as 60%. Most folks I know are around 40-50%. You have to think that if it's a storefront, you are using rental space, they advertise for you, they have a client base, etc. It's like in the publishing business; if you publish your book, it's cheaper but distribution is a bear; however, if you can find a publisher, which is hard, then distribution is a breeze, but less money possibly.

My best friend charges 15% in her store. Except for me!!! I only get charged 10%.
Tricia, is your friend's store a quilt shop? I'm so curious about how people are selling their quilts!
Around here it is 10 to 20%
