This seemed like the perfect weekend to post this question!
I'm planning on making a quilt for my husband's Uncle who is very active in the VFW and was wondering if any of you have a favorite patriotic pattern that utulizes a panel in the middle? Im stumped on what design I want to use and could use some inspiration! Also has anyone seen any VFW fabric anywhere? |
Thats a cool idea. Sorry I have no ideas and I have never seen any VFW fabric.

No matter what pattern you use, remember that veterans come from ALL lines of service...army, navy, air force, marines, coast guard, etc.....so anything "just" patriotic would be appropriate.
Jan in VA |
Jan thanks, I'm prior AF myself, but was hoping to find Veterans of Foreign Wars fabric, specific to that organization. He was prior Army but doesn't really talk about that, he focuses now on the VFW, I thought about appliquing thier emblem in the middle, but I'm not that good at applique yet! :D

Is this it?
http://www.easyvectors.com/browse/ot...f-foreign-wars If it is the right emblem then applique would really look amazing in the middle of the quilt. If you are not in a hurry i'll be happy to help you with the applique part. |

Would this help as a center piece? There is another VFW flag made of rayon which might be difficult to sew. I think it was called an altar flag. Look under VFW/flags from the main page. Or you might like this patriotic quilt which was in the Fons and Porter July/August 2010 issue which can still be purchased on their website Valiant Eagle Quilt |

Thanks everyone for your responses, If I use that nylon as maybe an applique, would it last in a lap quilt used for everyday? I really want to find something he can use everyday, and maybe I could use that as a wall hanging centerpiece.

Here's qa suggestion. There are small panels from most of the services available out there, we have several. Take these and one like we had on a banner in classified section for the center and add red, white and blue fabric. That way it would represent all services.
