I am looking at an older Viking Husqvarna Rose embroidery machine. Are cards readily available for older machines?

Do you have a local dealer you can contact ?

Do you know what format the machine takes ?

Unfortunately no to both questions. The machine is on Ebay, maybe I should wait and buy through a dealer. Thanks for the feedback!

The Rose using a programable embroidery card. In order to put designs on the card you have to have a reader/writer. I am not even sure if they are available anymore other than a used one. You can't just go buy the designs already on the card. When I bought my card it was about $150 new. The reader/writer was $300 new. I am not sure what used prices are.

I have a Viking #1+. It was the top of the line at one time. It using the same embroidery setup as the Rose. I love it but don't use the embroidery unit with it because honestly it is a hassle.

If you are going to use the machine for just sewing/quilting it is a great machine.

I also have a Viking Quilt Designer machine. I bought it used years ago because I wanted the needle up/down feature. This machine uses D-cards for all the different types of stitches. They aren't made by Viking anymore, but I have seen them on Ebay from time to time.

THE NEWER MODEL IS EXPENSIVE, BUT DEFINING EXPENSIVE IS ONE THING & AFFORDABLE IS ANOTHER. BUT I DID LOVE MY HUSQVANA...JUST GOT SICK FOR AWHILE AND QUIT USING IT& THEN FORGET HOW TO DO IT. LOL!

Hi, the designs that are sold now are no longer available in cards The only cards that you can get is the programmable card. You need to have the reader/writer software in order to transfer designs from a cp to the card. You might be able to get some cards with designs that are pre-owned on ebay.

My first viking was the rose, a very nice machine. They don't make the little cards anymore. Nor there isn't tech support from the company. All designs now are vip.3 and the software is 4D is wonderful and expensive, the new 5D will be out by Sept. For the rose there was a read/write machine that connects to your computer and put the design on the blank card, you put the card in the rose and stitch the design. I have the Viking Designer Diamond now, based on the limits of the embroidery half of the rose I wouldn't get it. If you want a great sewing machine then okay.

I have a reader/writer box, if anyone is interested in buying one. I'll sell it for $75.

The Rose is old school technology , where the Designer or Sapphire are new and current technology.
There were some designs available with the card and the floppy disk, which was used in the Designer 1. Some may still be available as overstock at dealers.

I have a friend who traded in her Rose. I can ask her if she still has cards left that she wants to sell. I know that she did a while back.

I have the Scandinavia 400 that uses the same cards as the Rose. I can find them on Ebay.

I have some cards i never used from when i had my 1+. I bought the D1 and should have sent them in to have changed over but I never did. I was afraid they would get lost in the mail. So, If anyone is interested in any, IM me and i'll give a list of what I have for purchase... Lindsey

I also have a Rose. (The machine belonged to my late MIL.) I found it to be not very user friendly. I have a Reader-writer box that I would be willing to part with, also,if anybody is interested in it, just let me know. I bought a Viking Ruby last year...love, love, love it! I would say that if you are not real technologically savvy, you will probably not be happy with the Rose. Now, if you just want a nice machine and don't plan to embroider, you would might like it.

I have the Rose and have found it quite easy I still use it

remember that the reader writer runs only upto xp I just went through all this when I upgraded to a new tower and the reader writer would not work on it luckly I had my old xp still that I run it on .they at husquavarna have no updates for the Rose you would have to buy all new software

Nancy's Notions and a few other places sell the Amazing Box. It will write a card in the HUS format required by the Rose. It has some basic software with it.

I had both the Rose and a 1+. I hooked up a 1+ to the Amazing box to sell the machine.

The name doesn't matter, it's the format. My Pfaff 2170 uses cards or a cable. I bought Babylock's CardWorks and write VIP3 for the Pfaff. (It also does Brother/Babylock cards and is no longer made)

The Amazing box should work on 7/8.1, They also have a programmable card for sale.

Babylock owns the Amazing Box, and NN is a Babylock dealer.

try ebay they have some things like that
