Vintage Sewing Caddies
1 Attachment(s)
Ever since I came across sewing caddy, I have been on the hunt to find out more information about these sweet vintage sewing caddies. There are several of them each a different girl, which has a retractable measuring tape, pincushion, & scissors. Anyone out there know anything about these sweet ceramic girls, such as manufacture, year they are from, or where I might find some of them. I have looked at the usual websites but no luck. Need more information please!

My MIL made things similar to this in her ceramics class.
My friends and I made several of these when we were into ceramics. At one time, they were a very popular item to make so you might start checking out garage sales, flea markets and thrift stores.
She is so cute! They would be fun to collect. I don't remember seeing them before.
adorable. Its more fun going on a treasure hunt in a flea market/thrift store if you have something to hunt for......whether you need it or not.
I just googled "ceramic sewing girl" and got a ton of hits. A lot for sale on eBay for as little as $5.
Yes, but did you find this particular one?
I have at least 2 similar to this one, I bought them from eBay. Love to look at them. And the grandchildren love to play with them, carefully. I figure they are 1950's era.
Do your items that you bought on EBay have a manufacture's name indicated on them or other makings of any kind?
I looked on both of my figures. No markings.

I have something similar. Its a bird on a nest with the wording scissor nest. It has a place to put a smaller pair of scissors. So cute. I got it at an auction.
I would also do a search on eBay as mentioned above.
I have seen these at the SA. I'll have to check again.
What's the SA?
SA=Salvation Army thrift store. You may need to search Japanese figurine manufacturers. There were many ceramics imported from Japan in the 50's. Some of them had JAPAN painted on the bottom. Others had a glued label with the company name and Japan. The glue needed to be wet with water to stick.

I love her!
I've never seen these, or if I did, didn't know what they were. Cute little deco for a sewing room.
Never have seen one before & she is just adorable & functional too, bonus !!
I couldn't find out too much about them, but this blogger has a collection of them...maybe you can contact her and she'll know more. They are sweet!

What a fun collector's item. I will have to keep my eyes open at Estate and yard sales... You never know what you might find in Maine.
sounds like they were homemade. Happy hunting!
She is sweet for sure. There are several for sale on Ebay. Will try to post pictures of two very similar that sold for $12.95 and $7.99 respectively. Nothing about when, where or who made them but they are advertised as "vintage".
