Vintage Sewing Machine Enthusiasts

Hey... all I'm sayin' is if you want an old fashioned marries modern sewing machine (Singer) you ought to see the day's special deal on HSN. It's awesome, even if to just look at. :) I, myself, have never seen one, but perhaps you all have. :)

Charlee 01-25-2012 09:51 PM

Have seen the pictures...nice enough, I guess, but I'm not terribly impressed. I think for that kind of money I'd rather have a REAL featherweight, and it would actually be less money...and last longer! :)

Candace 01-25-2012 09:55 PM

Yes, if you do a search it's been discussed quite a bit here.

Looks very unique! I'm with Charlee I'll take a FW any day! They are the best.

sewbeadit 01-26-2012 12:24 AM

How much is the price on that machine?

pinkberrykay 01-26-2012 04:09 AM

Here is the link to the FW, very cute but like others have said I rather have the original.

Just my opinion, but this "replica" made in Vietman sewing machine does nothing to "honor" the history of Singer as the ad says. In fact, it is insulting to me.

I appreciate seeing the picture and description though -- I had heard about these, but not seen the specs before.

Did you notice Country of Origin? Whatever happened to " the good ole days and Made In The USA

JabezRose 01-26-2012 04:59 AM

If I can't have a magnet anywhere near a machine, don't want that machine anywhere near me. Always have a magnet or two around to catch straight pins I flick out of my work while sewing. So, if they are plastic or there is a chance of erasing all the data, guess they ain't for me. Cute little machine though. ELectronic challenged here, would never figure out all them buttons. Give it 50 years and it will be a collectors item.

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 01-26-2012 05:56 AM

The featherweight is so much cuter.

gailinva 01-26-2012 05:58 AM

And will be around for another 50 years, will this new one? Probably not!!!!

This was really about the novelty that new meets old. That's all. I just happened to think it was cute. :)

brookemarie19 01-26-2012 06:15 AM

I like the flower foot. Maybe I can find something like that for my machine hmmmm..... probably not lol

Rosewood9 01-26-2012 07:25 AM

It does look pretty cute.

I absolutely agree. When you want a machine that sews a beautiful straight stitch, go vintage. Think this new one looks weird as well. If they wanted to make a commemorative machine, why didn't they make it just like the vintage machines. No frills, metal parts, straight stitch, last forever. This new one won't be able to hold a candle to the vintage machines.

CanoePam 01-26-2012 10:21 AM

I think the lines of the new machine are nice, but I wouldn't have it if it was given to me. Plastic body, plastic gears, electronics that will eventually go out a lot faster than metal wears out! I think Singer isn't even trying to get to real vintage machine folks but capitalizing on the terminology and looks for those who aren't familiar with the true quality in the vintage machines. Like I said, cute but no way.

I am with you...this does NOTHING for me and is NOT an honor to the Singer Company..if anything it shows just how far down hill Singer has fallen!

I still think it is cute to look at but I already got one in the shop for repairs, 9 weeks still not back. Who needs that? I am tired of the stuff made today! I got a 100 yr old Singer that just works great!
