Well my 2 yr old Kenmore machine died on Saturday, the motor froze and everyone at the shop said, it's goodbye to that machine. I did drive by my LQS and they had a sale going on with Bernina. I did 'cave in' and buy a new 220 while on sale, however, I had to put it on layway as even though it was on 'sale' it's still big bucks. I'll take photos when I spring that baby out of the layway shelf!

I've got projects to do, etc....so a good friend said, why don't I just take her machine and keep it. She hasn't sewn in over 15 yrs and it's just sitting in it's cabinet collecting dust. It does work she said. (talk about a blessing). So it's sitting in the back of my suv waiting for someone to help me lift it into the house.

Now for my question, she can't find the owners manual.....
Does anyone have any information about the White Precision Built Zigzag machine? model #999. She bought it new in 1981. And said it's a great machine.
Any help would be appreciated! And yes, when I get it into the house I'll take a photo. The cabinet needs refinishing, but that's no big deal.

Thanks!

Also check in with Charlee and Lostn51 at the vintage machine thread. They know everything, or where to find out.

For future reference: Go to Singer site and search W999 and there are two manuals to download for free. This one covers multiple models and I believe it covers White, Domestic, and Singer model 988, 999, 101, 1210. If you look at the cover page of the download, there's also "445" scribbled on it.

I just rescued a Domestic model 999M, made in Taiwan. It's a freearm and the color scheme is almond with dark teal panel and knobs. There's a YouTube video of a White model 999 by NiftyThriftyGirl Rayna Morgan, and that White machine is almond, brown, and orange.

I don't need another machine, but this one followed me home anyhow. :D

Nelco, Singer, White, Domestic model 999 with or without some number after the 999, all seem to be the same machine. I paid $5 for my Domestic 999M. After researching, I think I got a pretty good deal. :-) I like the way this machine sews.

That's insane that your shop told you to 'say goodby' to your Kenmore because the motor died. You can always put another motor in a machine. I'd find another repair shop.

That's exactly what I thought. Well, actually what I thought was, "What the @#$%& are they smoking at that shop?" There's only two reasons why they couldn't fix it. #1 - they don't make replacement motors or #2 - the shop doesn't know how to replace the motor. And neither of those make any sense.

Wait - there is another - #3 - they want to sell you a new machine.

Find another shop.
