It should come out close to 24in x 32ins, 8in blocks ...3 across x 4 down, ;)

Okay, got all my blocks put together and squared up. Getting ready to sew them all together! Waiting on my towel to come out of the dryer. Lily decided she wanted to be part of the Virtual Quilt Retreat also!

Are they 8" finished?

CarolynMT 02-23-2013 07:55 AM

They should be 8.5in before putting them together, the 1/2 in will be the seams for when you put the blocks together. So they are 8in blocks but 8.5 before piecing...if that makes sense

Lily is no longer being helpful. Actually when she is like this she is the most helpful!!!

CarolynMT 02-23-2013 08:40 AM

Oh how adorable! will have to take a shot of keegan :) His basket is smaller but he loves it

Blinkokr 02-23-2013 08:40 AM

Have a Blessed day

Well, Lily isn't a tiny petite kitty either!!! We grow 'em big in this house!

DJ 02-23-2013 08:48 AM

Love, love, love seeing your fabric choices!

Sapphire_Rae 02-23-2013 08:50 AM

AuntPiggy, looking good, love your fabrics! Looks like you wore out that cute inspector, lol. I've got a full pot of coffee, and a full bobbin so I am starting to sew. Pictures soon.

SouthPStitches 02-23-2013 09:01 AM

I must really be slow at this. Still just piecing my blocks. Think I'll stop for a little lunch, maybe the blood sugar is low. Can't include pics of my fabrics or progress as Hubby is at an ice fishing derby and has the camera with him.

I've decided to make mine into a Picnic Table Rug instead of bathmat.... I've had bits of these fabrics staring at me for a long time & think they'll be fun.

That fabric just screams "FUN" !!! I can hear all the way over here in Indiana!!!

Emma S 02-23-2013 10:48 AM

Aunt Piggy your mat is really coming together. Love the colors. Always amazes me how values change when cut into smaller pieces. We had a white cat we called Rainbow. He was the sweetest cat ever.
Lynda Rae: Really want to see what that fourth color does to the pattern.
I just finished the fifth step. Really enjoying the process. When I get a little further along I will post pictures.

Emma S 02-23-2013 10:55 AM

Thimblebug what a great idea. Makes me smile just looking.

Ok, I cheated and opted to piece a throw instead this morning :p will have to get on the ball and work on the rug tonight.

Ladies, dont push yourselves too much, this is supposed to be fun and everyone works at different speeds. Just enjoy the process.

The thing I love best is seeing how one pattern can look so very different with different fabric choices, it is so very cool!

Keep up the good work, I am popping in/out today, but usually every hour (gotta come downstairs to refill tea about then anyhow) so feel free to ask questions here or in PM. Great job

Oh and I was jealous of the inspector photos, had to take a couple of my boy

Keegan fills up that basket quite nicely!!!

Carolyn,

Started to sew but I think I missed a step. Are we suppose to cut 12 or 24 4.5 X1.5 of the C color??

Emma S 02-23-2013 01:04 PM

Wondered where you were Carolyn. What a gorgeous cat! Is he really as big as he looks?

Just wanted to attach a picture. I use my phone for photo so the quality is poor but really am happy with how it's going together.

Emma S 02-23-2013 01:07 PM

try again

I am done my fellow Virtual Quilt Retreaters!!! I quilted the bath mat with a variagated green and purple thread (wasn't that a lucky find to have on hand!) I pulled everything from my stash and the towel from the hall closet. Toby Bean seems to like it too! Now off to make some beef stroganoff for supper and then I will get back to work on my paper pieced quilt!!! I'll keep checking back to see how the rest of you are progressing; can't wait to see all the different colors!!!

Sapphire_Rae 02-23-2013 02:16 PM

Emma, love your colors! Going to be very pretty.

AuntPiggy, congrats on the finish! It is VERY pretty. Noticed that you and Emma have similar colors.

Carolyn, hello! You have a mighty handsome cat! Thanks for putting on this 'retreat.' I'm trying to stay out of chat, you all distract me in there! I get to laughing and don't get any sewing done.

Sewing my rows together now, while watching the first season of Downton Abbey. :)

Emma S 02-23-2013 02:21 PM

Love how it turned out. Especially the way the grid just pops. Thinking I will probably make more than one. Next time the grid is going to be the darkest color.

24......there are 12 blocks, 2 of those per block = 24.

So sorry for the late reply, have had a migraine for a few days and laid down for a few to ease the pain.

And yes auntP he is that big! about drives me nuts when he wants to sit on ya and snuggle......gets worse when the 70lb boxer boy joins us.......and even worse when the 2 boys start to fight over who gets momma's lap....

thimblebug6000 02-23-2013 03:11 PM

Well the sunshine finally came out so convinced DH to hike for 4 hours with me.... home again now....so just checking in, will get into that sewing chair now!

Love how the projects are turning out, thanks so much for the photos.

I'm at this point now too Dedemac; for Fabric C the directions says cut 36 @ 1½ x 2 ½ AND cut 12 @ 4 ½ x 1 ½ ..... but really you mean I need to cut 12 more of the 4 ½ x 1 ½ pieces, right?

Thanks Caroline, I looked at your photos and counted the number needed. I figured you just listed the number for one of the colors. Sorry to hear you have a migraine, I have those and they are not fun. I have enjoyed the retreat today, DH did a retreat of his own in the garage. He was playing with his planner and a lot of wood. Here is what I have so far. Trying to decide If I want the extra border to tone it down a little. I think I will switch to Knitting tonight and get back to the sewing tomorrow.

Auntpiggylpn- I love the colors! I am jealous of how quickly you did this.

Emma - Your colors are great also so nice and soft. I need to find some purples and get them in my stash.

Thumblebug
I ended up cutting 24 of the 4.5 x 1.5 and 72 of the 1.5 x 2.5.

CarolynMT 02-23-2013 04:21 PM

Thank you for the corrections to the cutting, hard to believe my degrees are in mathematics huh :p

Dede, i might add the sashing of the solid inbetween the blocks on yours, since yours is going to be a dog bed anyhow, the size isnt a big deal, but you are right the two plaids up against each other literally hurts my eyes. If I were doing it, I would add the sashing to give my eyes a rest. :) Plus side for me is that we can all see one with sashing, :)

Got is sewn together and picked out the towel. Looking forward to FMQ tomorrow. (Sorry, lighting is not very good in this picture.)

thimblebug6000 02-23-2013 05:27 PM

Just finishing up step 6... heating up the iron to press seams to "nest", probably will call it a day after this step. Will see how hungry DH is :D

Emma S 02-23-2013 05:48 PM

Dede: Think your right about the additional sashing. Would calm the plaids and give a path for the eye to follow. That being said, the plaids change this pattern completely, what a great dog blanket.
Lynda Rae: The blue centers really work. They change the focal point completely.
Carolyn: Sorry to hear your feeling bad. Your efforts have provided such a fun way to spend a Sat. Thank you so much! Feel better soon.

GOOD MORNING! Hope everyone got a good night sleep and awakened today ready to get to work today. I will be around all day in/out the forum.

I do hope everyone is giving their creativity free reign, I have really enjoyed all the different interpretations.

Happy Sunday, HUGS

SouthPStitches 02-24-2013 06:18 AM

Good a.m.: I have one row of blocks sewn together. Will finish the "top" then try my hand at the quilting. Once it's done will take a pic. Mine's called "Spotted Creamsickles". The rate I'm going, may not finish until tomorrow!
