Virtual Quilting Weekend 6/14-16/24

Welcome all VQWers! I hope you all will have a productive weekend. Mom and I are in Tennessee for the weekend so I will check in when I can which will probably be at night. I’m hoping to do some handwork at night too. Next month it will be July 12-14.
So what is everyone working on? Tuesday and Wednesday we were in Amish county Ohio and did some shopping. I also finished a sashiko piece I’ve been working on for months. It was my travel piece so didn’t work on it all the time.

Good evening. Thank you for hosting. It’s a nice summer day, low nineties and windy and sunny. Just my type of weather.

I plan to make a small w/h to celebrate our guild 10th year6 anniversary. It needs to be less than w4 inches sq. Be in the colors of blue and silver (or light gray). I’m thinking of making 10 = 4.5” sampler blocks and print out 4.5” pics in between. The pics will be a pics I took over the years of thing our guild has done over the years. Oh, did I say there should be something in the project that is a ten thing. So I figure 10 sampler blocks and 10 pics. And using 10 blue & silver/gray fabrics. Maybe use 10 different fabric for the binding. I have it planned out in my head just need to cut, sew and print. It’s a small project. That should keep me entertained. Pic after our guild meeting later this month.

I'm in !!! This has been a tough week at work so I really need this VQW. Right now the plan is to finish binding my Jewel Box Stars quilt, get my Olympia UFO to the flimsy stage (almost there just needs the last 2 borders, and work on my EPP hexie project.

I finished 10 placemats and 3 comfort quilts for our guild…..for the next project I want to make placemats with the scrap strip/chunks of the same fabrics. Look forward to checking in with others.

Lena1952 06-14-2024 03:21 AM

I’m in too. I will have to work on Saturday but will still find a few minutes to sew that day. I’m working on Kim Diehl Brimming Over blocks. Seems like I’ve been working on this forever but I had to put it aside when one of my exchange student daughters came for a two week visit and then made two quilt shop samples for classes I will be teaching. I’m loving the blocks and am happy to get back to them.

WMUTeach 06-14-2024 03:32 AM

I'm ready to dive in ......
1. Finish scrappy HST top to the flimsy stage.
2. Cut batting for 50 burp cloths from my scrap stash for donation group
3. Cut out 50 small Christmas stocking for donation group
4.*** Bonus project - Square up two flimsies and quilt one.

Today, I'm taking a class offered by my guild. Embellishing with jewels. The presenter makes gorgeous ball-gowns for the Buccaneer Days Gala here. After that, I want to sew squares together for the current pixel quilt--hundreds of pink squares in 3 shades! We are eagerly awaiting rain starting Sunday! So dry here.

Iceblossom 06-14-2024 04:58 AM

I'll be watching from the sidelines. I'm counting down days until my vision appointment (July 5) and trying to keep calm, but after 5 years of stability this sudden loss is hitting me hard. Not getting much of anything done -- have plenty to do.

Hoping you all will post lovely pictures!

michelem 06-14-2024 07:32 AM

I’m in this weekend…..first time. Finishing month of May on my temperature quilt, getting a top done for charity quilt and start QOV.

tried to attach photo but says file is too large.

I hope this weekend helps!

The Embellishing class was very fun! The presenter brought 2 tubs of scraps, sequins, velvets, and all in between! I chose the shell outline. Picking fabrics was difficult with sooo many choices. I went with mostly velvets, but some did amazing overlays with sheer types. We ran out of time to finish, but she sent us home with a pillow and pillowcase to affix project. I think I'll create a tote to affix mine! The foundation is crinoline, so now I need to order some. Very stiff.

I just finished this little pretty. Need to find something to back it with. I have enough of the floral to make a second quilt. I think I will find a butterfly pattern to put in the alternate blocks
first I need to do some housework and maybe grocery shopping 🛒

Not much to share so far, but it is completed…one more placemat for Meals on Wheels.

michelem 06-15-2024 08:52 AM

I finished month of May for my temperature quilt and the charity quilt top. Amazing how much you can get done when you wake up at 6am!

thimblebug6000 06-15-2024 08:53 AM

Ashley333 that is stunning, and what a gorgeous tote you will have!

Nice to see everyones projects are moving forward. I have been able to add one set of borders to my Olympia UFO. All I need is to add the last set, which should be easy 'cause it's only a simple slab-o-border. And as a bonus, I now have enough leader-ender blocks to put together another quilt top!

Here’s what I accomplished today — May of my temperature quilt

Dedemac 06-15-2024 05:08 PM

Not much accomplished today, it's been raining since about 2 PM, I tried to sew some of the diamonds between the flowers on the GFG but just wasn't in the mood. Our neighbor over here loves puzzles and she has been working on one of the cast of the Chosen. The three of us have gotten a fair amount of it completed.
There is always tomorrow. I love all the photos, lots of great progress!!

WMUTeach 06-15-2024 05:32 PM

Michelem, you can reduce the size of your photos, save, then re-post your photo. Not knowing if you are on a phone or a computer, I can't help any more than that. I used to experience that message all the time until I learned to to reduce the size of my photos and now I just do it automatically. A quick Google might help or just investigate your photo program on your phone or computer.

Oh, you did it, I see your photo of your May temperature quilt. Good for you!

WMUTeach 06-15-2024 05:39 PM

Well, I am moving forward on my VQW To Do List. I cut the 50 batting units for burp cloths and squared up one quilt. Then someone yelled "squirrel" and I started to sort some of the contents of my quilting closet. It does look better and I took a bag out to the trash and set aside some items for a "give away table" that are duplicates of what I already have. No fabric, just small tools and stuff.

Tomorrow more clean up of the mess I made and then work on the quilt top that needs to become a flimsy. I call it a success!

LGJARN52 06-16-2024 03:42 AM

Finished a quilt top using a Villa Rose pattern, turned out not to be one of my favorites. I keep putting off marking the quilting lines on it, but determined to get it over with and out of the house as it is a charity quilt. Then I can cut up a bunch of my scraps into useable sizes this coming week.

Lena1952 06-16-2024 04:26 AM

I only managed to complete one Che keyboard section on my KD Brimming Over quilt. And doubt I will very much accomplished today but I may get a chance to sneak over to the studio and cut a few flying geese for the next part. Only one more installment to finish and then I can put it all together. This has been a fun project and I almost hate to have it end. Oh well, there is always another coming down the road.

toogie 06-16-2024 05:31 AM

I’m working on a panel quilt. I saw a picture of one I THOUGHT would make a QOV but after I made LOTS of half square triangles, I did not like the look. May be it was the color difference, so I played around with my HST . Hubby was watching, because my design ‘wall’ is my design ‘floor’. He says you’re wasting more time just playing with those pieces, just sew them any way. I shoot him a look and told him I was gonna play until I felt it was right! Some men! Can’t be just my husband, or can it? Anyway, I’m in the process off and on right now. Been having problems with a hip now and starting therapy on my wrist Tuesday. I thought sewing would be good therapy and it is but I need strength training bc can’t pick up a pot with food in it. Oh well, these ‘golden years’…..

What a cute idea! Love your colours!

Sync 06-16-2024 02:15 PM

Well, no progress for me today. As I started to measure my top for the slab-o-borders, I unfortunately noticed that one of the previous borders was sewn on upside down .......... sigh .......... I'm just going to spend time ripping and then go and work on my EPP.

Raggiemom 06-16-2024 03:22 PM

That looks great!

Well I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mom and I are back home now. I hope to get in my sewing room some this and work on some projects. See you all next month!

thimblebug6000 06-16-2024 04:31 PM

Thanks for hosting…a water line leak in our crawl space totally changed our plans! Love seeing photos of everyone’s projects!

Dedemac 06-17-2024 04:14 AM

Thank you for hosting Heather, not much done here also. Too much wet weather to inspire me to sew. But we did get what was needed done at our friends cabin.

beckyj 06-17-2024 10:39 AM

Squirrel, what does that mean?"

sssss what does "squirrel" mean?

Dedemac 06-17-2024 11:10 AM

Beckyj For me its when my brain just takes off by itself and wants to do something else. ( Easily distracted!!!! )
:shock::thumbup:
This is a squirrel moment, right now I was trying to clean the bathroom.

aashley333 06-18-2024 02:36 AM

Squirrel refers to "a dog's attention span" being easily changed by the urge to chase a passing squirrel instead of current focus!

WMUTeach 06-18-2024 04:20 AM

Time to report in and once again life caught me up and my progress was halted. I did get the batting scraps under control and batting for the two small quilts is ready to go. It appears that happened to a number of us this weekend. Ah well, all we have is time, and so we can continue on with our projects this week, this month and this year. See you all in July.
