I had a very productive day. I woke around 4 a.m. and started to tidy and reorganize my space. I made a lot of progress and the heater will arrive early next week. We're expecting negative temperatures on Sunday, but I think I'll play with my light pad and watch a Craftsy class. Once the heater arrives I'll be in sewing bliss.

rryder 12-17-2016 03:27 AM

Well, we've both had the cold from hell all week, so I haven't gotten anything done in my sewing studio. Woke up feeling a little better so I might get to work on either a UFO I'd like to have finished before 2017 or another candle wreath (those things are addictive).

I just finished layering two lap quilts and am ready to quilt them! So I will spend this cold, icy weekend deciding what oatterns to use to quilt them! Hopefully I will get one of them quilted and ready for binding!

Karamarie 12-17-2016 06:19 AM

I guess I won't be joining you. Last night I had 2 grandkids for overnight. They're still here but parents will be picking them up soon. I'm having our family Christmas here tomorrow so will be preparing food and cleaning. I am caught up on the Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilt. Printed out the instructions for this coming week and will start on that Monday. After tomorrow my time is my time so will get to sew and get clue 4 done. Enjoy your quilting weekend.

Cheryl 12-17-2016 07:17 AM

I'll be at a sewing today working on DIL quilt getting it pinned and also working on Bonnie Hunters MQ En Province.

Raggiemom 12-17-2016 07:25 AM

Glad to see so many of you hard at work! I had a great time shopping with my friend yesterday. We stopped at three shops and helped the local economy a little :) We had planned to pay with my Brother Scan N Cut but it apparently doesn't cut with a cutting mat!!!! so I ordered one from amazon and it will arrive tomorrow. So today I am working on Lollipops by Edyta Sitar. Will check back in later to see what everyone is doing.

Kitsie 12-17-2016 08:47 AM

Having machine stitched the inner border of my Dresden and baste stitched the edges and having caught up with all the Splendid blocks to date, I will now get back to working on my blue batik SaS! So much fun with the some new batiks I've bought just for it!
Enjoy everyone!

Macybaby 12-17-2016 09:51 AM

Started the morning cutting up scraps. I now have 1 1/2" strips - 64 yards long. I need 85 yards' worth for the log cabin pattern I want to do. I'll probably have to cut into yardage to finish that up - the good part is that goes so much faster!

Then I sewed clue #4 on the BH mystery, so that one can be set aside until next weekend.

I really should bundle up and head out to the long arm - but it's COLD out there. -3 right now, with the temps dropping, forecast for -27 tonight, and that is cold! We keep the thermostat set around 45, and I turn it up when I'm working out there. It's not going to stay cold, and there is always next weekend, and it's not like I don't have things to work on in my sewing room.

Taughtby Grandma 12-17-2016 09:59 AM

I have a jelly roll queen size ready for the quilting frame, and one for a youth bed. I'll probably do the youth bed first. I'm working on some ideas for some quick Christmas gifts as well.

Took me a minute to figure out this was a typo... I thought you were talking about printing your own money and cutting it with your Brother Scan and Cut. LOL! :D

Belfrybat 12-17-2016 11:49 AM

Everyone is so industrious this weekend!

I'm late to this party, but am finishing up the final touches on three Christmas table runners and working on clues 3 & 4 of the Bonnie Hunter mystery. Will be back when I have something to show. I also want to make a batch of cheese wafers and Chex mix to hand out to neighbours over the next couple of days.

mkc 12-17-2016 12:06 PM

Yesterday I prepped the backing for my Chain of Stars quilt and put the sandwich together (my least favorite part of quilting, even with spray basting).

I hope to start quilting it tomorrow. It's the largest I've ever done and going to be a challenge. Maybe I should start and the center and get the hardest part done first...

I'm working on a MSQC tea towel apron, likely the only sewing project this weekend.

Macy, can't wait to see how your Jewel Box comes along, love the look of the fabrics you've cut.

I know I've been over-sharing this, but I'm so excited and you all are the only ones who will appreciate it!
I cut out my horse like a giant applique and fused it to the background fabric and it worked! Hooray!
Now, on to sandwiching and quilting. Promise not to post again until it's finished!

Macybaby 12-17-2016 04:49 PM

watson- don't do that! I've been loving the "in progress" pictures.

cjsews 12-17-2016 04:58 PM

Oh Watson, that is amazing.

NZquilter 12-17-2016 06:04 PM

Simply stunning, Watson! Please keep sharing!

My DH and I put up the Christmas tree today (we always do the week before Christmas, and then keep it up all of January), so I didn't get to my sewing desk until the afternoon. I cut all the pieces for Bonnie Hunters MQ clue 4 and started chain piecing. I got a quarter of the way through when I found out that the triangles weren't going to line up... So out came the seam ripper! Such is life:)

giquilt 12-17-2016 07:15 PM

I did not post that I was sewing this week-end but I am. Trying to catch up on the 365 challenge. Will post blocks tomorrow, but I am caught up thru 12/11. I might actually finish this by year end. Family had Christmas at Thankgiving. "Thanksmas".

mollymunchkin 12-17-2016 09:05 PM

Just found this thread. I have stitched all the blocks together for my shadow box. Now to decide on the border. I also cut blocks for a blue rag quilt and have 2 1/2 rows stitched together on it. I would like to finish that and maybe make a pink one. I also want to start a quiet book. Probably won't all happen this weekend. Thankfully, I have 3 weeks off.

here are the finished stockings for kids and grandboys! What a pain they turned out to be--but like the results. Also spend time on this memory quilt for a customer---have all the snowball blocks together (7 rows of 6) and put together all the cut off points and will use them for borders on one of the 2 others left to do. Still worried that I'll be out of fabric before I finish all 3. At this point, plan on getting fabric to use for binding for all 3--the shirts were so terrible worn that to thin for binding and the pants fabric is all a cotton/poly with stretch!

Watson 12-18-2016 04:26 AM

Cute stockings!

Watson

Macybaby 12-18-2016 06:50 AM

Giquilt - I'm doing the 365 challenge too! I'm caught up to the 14th. I didn't use the Iris corner block for the main quilt, but wanted to make it anyway. So that is what I did yesterday.

I'm going scrappy lights and darks, but when I made the center medalion I sort of go stuck on purple/turquoise. And after getting it made, decided it wasn't working with the rest. So a month or so later I made a new center, and then decided to make some 6" blocks to go with the p/t center.

I made the Iris in those colors, and decided I liked it better for a center than the original. So this morning I've deconstructed the first center I did, and will be redoing it with the Iris, then I'll sew the 6" blocks around it, and call it good. I'll be turning it on point, not quite sure how I'll do that yet.

quiltingbuddy 12-18-2016 07:29 AM

So many wonderful things you are all working on. I don't want to feel left out but I just finished my Christmas mug rugs and got them mailed out yesterday along with gift cards and hot chocolate. That counts right? The mailing is just as important as the making right?

Other than that I just finished my "Quilt Party" block for the meeting on Tues and the one for me that I will turn into a pillow of the same pattern. It's a really cute pieced snowflake. I should take a pic huh?

So after I wrap my dresden plate hotpads I can get back to hand quilting my ornament tree quilt. It's too big for me to do by machine. Guess it will be my winter project. I had won all the ornament blocks (I think 30?) last year and finished the top right away but it has been waiting to be sandwiched. I got a little discouraged after it was pin basted because it's slightly crooked looking on the back but I had planned to put the one block that was a bit too small on the back so hopefully it will not look too off now. Either way it's onward I go with it and hopefully it will be fine. It's for us so who cares?!

Now to finish the cookies so I can get back to sewing. Have fun everyone! And Merry Christmas!

Macybaby 12-18-2016 10:38 AM

some progress pictures - Here is my deconstructed medallion with the new center.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psvxvusysl.jpg

For reference - here is the medallion before I took it apart.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps0mtsrity.jpg

I used this for the ripping. I don't use it often, but it comes in handy when I've got some long seams to take out.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pssuwj33y3.jpg

I got it all sewed back together - I like this so much better!

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psdkhifgnq.jpg

After laying it out on the diagonal with the 6" block I already made, I decided to make some 3" blocks so the setting triangles won't be so big. I picked easier ones that have a "star" look - and have most of the 14 cut out and ready to sew.

MadQuilter 12-18-2016 11:07 AM

I hope to get some sewing time in today. Stopped by the LQS yesterday and found the perfect border fabric and backing for the Quatre Foile I got going right now. All the rows are done and I am on to the sashing strips and assembly next. It is such a fun pattern - I love it. (Got the idea from Jenny Doan on one of her tutorials.)

With laundry running and DH batting eyes at me to make him some cookies......I better work fast.

Quilt top done!

I just got the top done for the lap quilt I'm making my mom for Christmas. Luckily I have time to finish it before I'll see her on New Year's Day. I had one charm pack of a Christmas print by Moda and then I found a yard of coordinating fabric for the border and another yard of a neutral with snowflakes. It's a disappearing 9-patch; the first time I've tried it. I have a blue/gray print for the backing.

The progress is amazing on some of these quilts.

I'm done for the weekend and I'm going to enjoy some hot cocoa to celebrate my hard work.

QuiltingVagabond 12-18-2016 02:04 PM

Nice work everyone! Just finished my En Provence clue 4 units. We also put a small television in my sewing room today - I am one happy girl!

The blue and white Ts (20) took 5 hrs. The rest done about an hour each. Each block is 6.5 inches.

Macebaby, Wow you did two Iris blocks? I'm impressed !!! That took me about 12-14 hrs total.
As u can see I am using Reproduction fabrics. I know Fran36 is also doing the quilt. Wonder if any others? Love your colors👍🏻😄

geevee 12-18-2016 03:28 PM

Oh Watson, the horse is stunning, please keep sharing pic updates.

Adorable stockings, quiltingshorttimer!

I like that center better too, Macybaby, and really like thsoe colors.

I decided to add an oven mitt to go with the apron, the pieces are quilted and cut out, just debating on the lining before finishing.

Raggiemom 12-18-2016 03:39 PM

Wow, I am amazed by the beautiful projects worked on this weekend. Thank you for joining me and sharing the photos :)

geevee 12-18-2016 04:08 PM

Ditto what Raggiemom said, I love all the pics of project progress - Homefrontgirl, that is such a pretty top! And giquilt, those blocks are really nice, 5 hours making just one would do me in.

so many pretties! love the purple and teal, MacyBaby! and of course, I've already told Watson I want that horse (she's ignoring me on that though!). let's see more of the Bonnie Hunter quilts that everyone is doing--I decided not to do it this year as too busy--but did find the colors intriguing and would love to see what all of you are doing. No quilting today--nap after church and then I wrapped all presents except ones of DH (he was in room) and a couple for kids on his side of family! Yea! my most disliked Christmas chore DONE--I've now officially done for Christmas other than cooking when everyone gets here. Real glad g-boys will be here Christmas morning--I decided many of their gifts would be from Santa! Like the stuffed animals with pj's

And this Christmas quilt for the older g-boy's bed while he's here--do you see the boo-boo! DH thought it was intentional--so I'm sticking to that story! (actually, that part is not in the picture and it's quilted now too.

lynnie 12-18-2016 04:51 PM

everyones work is great. hat's off to all of you.
Watson, just remarkable!!!! can't wait to see the horse done.

Macybaby 12-18-2016 06:46 PM

Those toys are so cute!

I'm about done for the night - sure wish I didn't have to go to work in the AM- but it's the only way I can afford my quilting hobby!

I got the blocks together and ready for the last four corners. I'm going to make them similar to the corner blocks around the Iris. I've got some border fabric that goes with the black print, so I'll see if that would work for the outside.

giquilt 12-18-2016 07:03 PM

Cathy, really love your colors. You are industrious. This plus the 365.
Watson, the horse is fantastic. Love all the Christmas quilts, gifts, stocking and more.
What will we be sewing on in Jan.? See you then.
Gi

zozee 12-18-2016 09:17 PM

Had every intention of getting my chemo quilt completely quilted this evening. I'm doing straight line quilting with wavy stitch.

But had only about 9 lines of quilting to go when I started having one irksome thing after another happen.

-machine coming unthreaded a couple times till I did I looked up troubleshooting in my manual
-problem was lint build-up in feed dogs so I gave her a thorough cleaning then tried again
-bobbin ran out
-motivation ran out!

There's always tomorrow unless the Lord returns, in which case my friend won't need the quilt anyway!

Rebecca_S 12-19-2016 05:47 AM

I finished my blocks and sewed them together, but am pausing while I figure out the border(s). I just want to move on to the next project, so it might be a really simple border treatment this time!

Macybaby 12-19-2016 07:19 AM

I finished the corner blocks, put together the backing and cut the binding - so it's all ready to go to the LA - along with all the others out there!

But it's out of the tote - so that is good, another pulled from the PIT (Projects in totes). Maybe by the next VQW it will be quilted.
