Cindi, your Love Bug quilt is to die for!! Needs to hang on a wall....
|
Macybaby, IMPRESSIVE use of scraps!! Wow, what an awesome quilt you will have with 80-100 of those scrappy blocks.
|
I'm playing around with making crib bumpers for my niece. I also pieced the backing for her baby quilt. I may
cut some more pieces for an anvil quilt I am working on for me. It's cold here today compared to last weekend and we have a chance of winter weather starting tonight. I'm praying for a weekend at home to quilt! |
MacyBaby, can't begin to tell you how fabulous your work and pics and organization are. I shall worship you from afar.
Lots of ideas there. This VQW I am working on my block swap, a fabric PC, and installing flannel on one wall of my workroom for a design wall. Pretty much have thrown in the towel as far as cooking etc. goes. |
Update - I did manage to get my block completed this AM as well as picking up fabric to finish this UFO! Major progress for me for a change! Debating if I want to pre-washing this yardage as none of the fabrics in the blocks were pre-washed. I probably won't just to be consistent within the top.

romanojg, glad you're joining us and getting back into quilting!
I'm home from the retreat, I left a day early to spend some time with husband. I've only been back from two weeks in Florida for a week. The trip to visit my parents was already planned when I decided I would do the retreat this time. I had so much fun and am thrilled with how much I accomplished. I'll work on some other stuff tomorrow afternoon after church. |
Raggiemom, looks like you had a very productive retreat.

Love what you accomplished, Raggiemom!
Macybaby, you are a star, what great organization and piecing skills! I have the table topper put together, just have to add an edge binding, it won't be quilted as it's more of a fitted 'tablecloth' for a 20" square side table: |

such pretty projects!!! I love scrappy stuff and I'm always drawn to them. Some day, I will really get one finished. Heaven knows that I have enough scraps....
But, in the meantime, I used up one of my 1+ yd pieces of a green fabric and some cream color left over from previous project. I got it done - and added a cream color 1.5 inch border around the green & white. Added the floral border and didn't like the cream border...So off to the quilt store - 30 min away...I already knew I wouldn't find a green to go w/ it (been there, done that) I found an orange polka dot that i liked a lot. this was the final look, i didn't like it close up of the polka dot... now the quilt w/ the polka do border...I know it looks more orange, and this is one of the few times that real life looks better. |

I finished putting on the borders for my niece's quilt and I finished up the last 3 blocks for my Allietare today. There's a NCAA basketball game later tonight so I have some hand applique to work on during the game. Here's my niece's top.

That green is pretty Sync!!! I am not sure I would have picked green w/ those colors - but it is absolutely perfect!

Copycat - I did a scrappy binding with 4" strips on the bias. I really liked how it turned out. I wasn't sure how much I'd end up with, and still have about 7 yards of it for another project (I guess I made a bit more than I needed).
I cut the strips, sewed them together, cut on the bias and then attached those strips together into one long one. This is the quilt it went on - made from fabric I got from my sister, each 5" block is a different one. The binding was all from the different solids she had. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psakuvod1z.jpg |

I love a scrappy binding - I did one on a grandmothers flower garden quilt that i finished for my aunt.

Oh! Love all the pictures, makes me want to put the scraps aside and work on a different project.
But I'll soldier on - at least I'm done with the greens. I've got 60 blocks done now, so I'm getting there! http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps5qtac7sr.jpg Now I'll start on the yellows and oranges. Nice bright colors to work on when we're have snow storm outside. |
Love all the pictures everyone! I'm doing hand quilting on an embroidered quilt so will try to post a sneak peek photo of it later.
|
No sewing for me. Overnight company just left and need to get the house back in order. Do want to get a project ready for a quilt retreat this coming Saturday.

Cathy, I'm guessing you thrive on organizing--get a real kick out of it. Me, too! I'd be having fun doing what you're doing--except I would konk out LONG before getting that much cut and bagged. You must have a GO? machine? Tell me you haven't rotary cut all those pieces?
Also, if you said where your crazy style quilts (80-100 blocks EACH??? whoa) will be going, I missed it. Specific people or charities in mind? And how do you construct your odd-shaped pieces into the crazy blocks? You have sure inspired me to go farther with my organization. |
On Friday I did only one thing housework wise (because my ankle and knee can't bear up longer than that in this point of my recovery) : cleaned the bathroom.
After that, I kissed all work goodbye, put my music on, took out my new-to-me Featherweight, and began piecing a bird quilt I'm making. I hadn't realized at that point that we had a VQW going on. So, perfect timing. :) Yesterday I was feeling stronger in the legs, and had a guest coming, so I made myself work for an hour. It's amazing what you can will yourself to do to make a good first impression! Today I meant to get up and go to church, but I overslept (thank you, pain pill and hubby). Now I'm inspired to get sewing again. (The FW had to be put away. Sluggish, needs a deep cleaning and greasing and oiling. Not what I'm in the mood for today.) |
It's wonderful to look at everyone's projects. Unfortunately I have a nasty upper respiratory thing that has me too wiped out to sew.
|
Raggiemom- Those are great. My favorite is the one with Halloween colors. I'm amazed at the amount of work you managed to get done at your retreat!
Geevee- Your table topper is very pretty. I really like the addition of the blue among the warmer colors, really gives the topper an additional pop! 117Becca- I agree with you that changing the inner border was a good idea, it helps separate the inner quilt from the border. Looking forward to seeing how it quilts up--it's going to be lovely. Sync- Love those colors together. Beautiful quilt top! I haven't made much progress on my VQW to do list because Friday was a long barn day getting horses vaccinated, and finding out my horse has what appears to be an upper respiratory infection necessitating a 2 week course of antibiotics and expectorant, poor guy. So, even though he didn't have a fever and the vet didn't seem too concerned, I stayed awake all night Friday night fretting about him. Which meant that yesterday I didn't get a thing done in the sewing studio---I just can't do those all nighters anymore like I could when I was younger... So I have modified my idea of how much I'm going to get done during this VQW. Today I'm working on the quilting part of an art quilt that is a collaboration with a musician/painter friend of mine. I'm going to try to get most of the stabilizing quilting done and may end up being able to get some of the more decorative work done on it once I can safely remove all those safety pins. The UFO that needs to be un-sewn and re-sewn will have to wait, and that means that I won't be starting a mini-whole cloth inspired by Lisa Calle's class--guess what will probably be on my list for next month's VQW :D Rob |

Thanks Rob, sorry about your horse's illness, hope it clears up quickly and you're both feeling better about it. I'm looking forward to seeing your art quilt and the mini-whole cloth, bet they'll be stunners.
I finished the cover for the table, it's just a carppy little Walmart table but it's the perfect height for the reading chair it sits next to, so I keep it covered in various tops and it helps it look kinda fresh and not so carppy. lol I got a bit of a wave in the binding edge, probably because I had to add a strip of fabric to lengthen it once I'd already sewn the corners together, but oh well, it'll do. |
Enjoying watching the VQW, might try to join in next month. Everyone's pictures are great. Sorry can't remember who was doing the scrap organizing but wow you did a great job.
Also, for those interesting the the bug quilt, FatCat Patterns has a free pattern that is very similar. |

Macybaby. Love all your organization. Really getting the nitty gritty done!!!
This is what I did this weekend. Put together last three rows of a Mystery Row Quilt for our local Guild. Each row is 60 inches. I had cut out all the blocks already. I lack some Appliqué then I can put rows together. Have enjoyed everyone's pictures. |

Hi everyone! I didn't think I would get any sewing done this weekend but I did manage to do this candle mat.
Here's a closeup - I may need to to add a little quilting to the center. It was a quilt as you go design. |
Forgot to say thanks for hosting raggiemom! Wish I could have joined you at the retreat!

Not a very great picture but don't want to lay the whole quilt out, here is the snowlady block I am hand quilting a grid on. I purchased the patterns from http://www.chickadeehollowdesigns.co...now-Ladies.htm And also here are two scrappy blocks I did today, the star one is a pattern from A Little Bit Biased Blogspot from a few years ago, and the chain one is something I saw posted and thought would look good as an alternate block. The centre squares are 2" cut.

Thanks for quilting with me this weekend! :) I took today off to recover from the LONG days quilting at the retreat and to catch up on some housework. Although I have asked them repeatedly, the cats never pitch and help with the housework. They do enjoy creating more work for me though !
See you all next month, I'm thinking Christmas presents to work on that weekend. |

I got a couple of projects done (or at least, to the next stage) this weekend. My Peace, Love, Quilt mystery top is done. This is isn't the original layout, but I like it. I did have to make an additional 90-some blocks (more than we made initially) to make it happen, but it was worth it.
Plus, I got a quilt on (and off) the longarm. Just need to finish the binding. |
Finished the top of a string scrappy and set the back together. Now its ready to be loaded for quilting.
|
Krista - love that heart quilt, especially they way the background turned out with all the little squares. I really like the border too - not that I need any ideas, but I will have a boat load of white/off white scraps when I get my crazy quilt done.
I've gotten through the yellows and into the oranges with my scrappy project. I now have a total of 76 blocks, so that means I completed 32 over the weekend. They take between 30 and 45 minutes to complete. |

Wow! Lots of wonderful projects this virtual weekend!
I sorted more fabrics and I would love to make blocks like yours with the sorted colors, Macybaby. I just struggle with making crazy blocks as they make me crazy! Lol! I made the Broken Dishes block for the Quilting Bee thread on this forum. I'm trying to use as many of the donated batiks as possible in my blocks. Connie |
