Visitation Day

Today was visitation day ! The day I got to visit our dear Aunt Jo-Ann ! Hubs decided that since I have not seen the inside of a fabric store in well over a month, that perhaps I might want to go visiting today, and visit I did ! Well stocked with my envelope full of coupons for National Craft Month ! Not only did I enjoy my visit with Aunt Jo-Ann, but she is conveniently located directly in between my two favorite thrift stores, Savers and Goodwill , and not far from BigLots who also happens to carry fabric pre-cuts that I know are of decent quilting quality ! So I did not want to make them feel as though they were being left out ! Behold the bounty !

From Jo-Anns :
3 packages of batting
1 pillow form
12 Fat Quarter Bundles ( totaling 60 FQ's )
1 EZ Quilting Circle Cut Ruler

From Goodwill :
1 really amazing quilt shelf ! 48 inches long total, with a 46 inch long hanging area for $18 ? Yes please !

From Savers :
18 - 100% Cotton Flat Sheets ranging from king to twin in size
Have I ever mentioned my obsession with flat sheets ? My son thinks I am a flat sheet hoarder, I think I am just being economical ! You know how much yardage there is on a flat sheet ? ALOT !

From Big Lots :
4 Jelly Rolls
6 Charm Packs

Total spent for the entire day ( not counting Taco Bell for lunch )
[h=2]$105.56[/h]I am good !

Whoo hoo you SCORED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GailG 03-04-2014 04:14 AM

And this was all "Hub's" idea?!!! What a day you had!

SlightlyOffQuilter 03-04-2014 04:30 AM

Well, Hubs idea was that I should go to Jo-Anns LOL, he forgot that my other favorites happened to be right next to it LOL . It is a good 45 minute drive for me to get to ANY fabric stores, and since we live in NY and have been having one snowstorm right after the other for a while, I have not been able to go, and I think I was starting to show signs of withdrawal !

Tartan 03-04-2014 05:17 AM

Congratulations on your haul!

cowgirlquilter 03-04-2014 05:32 AM

Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaw!!!!!!!!

GingerK 03-04-2014 05:36 AM

Your Hubs is definitely a keeper!! Good think he managed to get you out of the house before you started cutting up his shirts to stave off that dreaded withdrawal!

Do you use the sheets as regular yardage for quilts or as backing? I have a beautiful 100% cotton cream coloured sheet and was contemplating using it as the light yardage in a HST scrappy, but was not sure if it would work.

SlightlyOffQuilter 03-04-2014 05:45 AM

I use sheets for everything LOL ! Sometimes the front, sometimes the back, just depends on the quilt ! I always get the 100% cotton sheets that " feel nice ". I have a hypersensitivity thing, and things that feel fine to others can sometimes feel REALLY scratchy to me, so I know if I think it feels okay, it is a safe bet that its fine for everyone else too LOL. My personal favorite is a nice Egyptian cotton ! Or those really nice vintage linen sheets . I could pet those forever haha

Jim's Gem 03-04-2014 10:04 AM

Looks like you had a great day! Congrats!

cjsews 03-04-2014 04:39 PM

What a haul. Isn't it nice when you can visit relatives and friends?

Anniedeb 03-04-2014 07:14 PM

Good for you!! If my DH offered me that deal, I'd wonder..."just what does he want to buy!!!";)

nursie76 03-04-2014 07:19 PM

It will work just fine! They make wonderful yardage.

justflyingin 03-04-2014 11:02 PM

This is a fantastic haul! Congratulations for great bargain hunting!

Am admittedly a little jealous. Yesterday I paid about $7 for a 100% cotton tannish sheet (second-hand). But I got it. Fabric is hard to come by here and I get it where I can! :) But I will look forward to the thrift store shopping in the states. --Have two weddings this year!

It is nice that you found a place that obviously other quilter-bargain hunters don't go.

IrishgalfromNJ 03-05-2014 03:06 AM

You did good. Love all your new acquisitions. Keep on quilting!

My kind of shopping good results with little money.Way to go

Kris P 03-05-2014 04:36 AM

Wow! That's some good shopping!

ninabecerra 03-05-2014 04:41 AM

great shopping spree... I wish we could find those types of deals here in So Fla.

Jingle 03-05-2014 05:55 AM

You got wonderful deals. Good for you, wouldn't find deals like that around here. Obviously we have lots of quilters in the St. Louis area. It is a large area with all the surrounding counties.

quiltinglady-1 03-05-2014 06:17 AM

If my hubby suggested that I go shopping for fabric, I would have to ask that person what he did with the real hubby, because the real hubby would never suggest that. Wouldn't matter if I was having withdrawals. Besides, I do have way too much fabric, so don't really "need" any more. What's need have to do with it??? lol

sash 03-05-2014 06:44 AM

Trying to not buy any more fabric, but would really like to know what section of store (Big Lots) did you find fabric? Just wondering. Lol. Thanks.

JanieH 03-05-2014 09:31 AM

Great score! And thanksk for the tip on Big Lots = never thought to look there for fabric!

MargeD 03-05-2014 10:51 AM

You did good girl. I too spent some time with Aunt Jo Ann yesterday as I had not been in several months - pre-Christmas. I had some "mad" money from the craft fair I attended last Nov., and it kept telling me to spend it and not hide it away. I didn't do nearly as well as you did, but with sales and coupons I managed to save $96, not chump change. Now I just need to start using that fabric.

brickley 03-05-2014 02:30 PM

What a fun day. and profitable to, now all your gifts that you make will cost a lot less.

Carol34446 03-05-2014 03:10 PM

He is a keeper and so glad you got your fix. Hope weather gets better soon too.

katesnanna 03-05-2014 05:33 PM

WOW!! What a haul. Congratulations. Back to the machine now. Lol.
Happy Quilting

They only have jelly rolls and charms, and some random fq's at times. They also have scrapbook and yarn stuff. Look in the crafty section, it is usually near the cards and wrapping paper around here.

Mariposa 03-05-2014 05:44 PM

Neat that your hubby took you visiting! I see you had a wonderful day! :)

mimiof4 03-05-2014 05:48 PM

Sew glad for visitations. This is one of the funniest threads I have read in awhile, thanks!

oldtisme 03-05-2014 07:58 PM

Slightly Off Quilter I seen this on your blog today! Awesome score, great husband!

Debbie C 03-06-2014 04:20 AM

I want to go shopping with you!!

hairquilt 03-06-2014 06:04 AM

You did GOOD with your haul!! I just bought 2 Jellyrolls at Big Lots for $7.50 ea. Sure beats that $25 at LQS for one! Goodwill seems to be a little better pricewise than Savers to me. Savers just went up to $2.99 for pillowcases(King at least)that I buy for my Stash. We must be thrifty so we can have more more. Lab coats really have cute fabrics in them. Savers at 50% off is $2.00(buy the long sleeves one in XL) Love cutting up for the fabrics while I'm watching TV.

quiltingloulou 03-06-2014 06:27 AM

Oh you lucky thing. What a great deal you achieved. Maybe we will get a chance to see what the turn in to! Happy sewing.

EmiliasNana 03-06-2014 07:05 AM

My HUBS would never suggest a trip like that! He is supportive, never says anything about how much I spend, but just shakes his head when he looks at my stash. I think he thinks I have plenty LOL

diamondee 03-06-2014 09:40 AM

What fun! Great looking goodies too. I'm trying to behave myself with fabric purchases this year, my room is overflowing, but I might just have to stop at yard-sales when they start up again. *sigh* we do not have Savers or Goodwill here.

chichimamma 03-06-2014 09:55 PM

Wow too bad we don't live closer!!!! You go to all the stores I frequent, I don't know what Savers is but sounds interesting. Even Taco Bell is a favorite.

roserips 03-14-2014 07:52 PM

What a great haul, and a thrifty spender! Way to go Girl!
