Voyager 17, the original edition....

If you had the opportunity to buy a Voyager 17 from 2007 with stitch regulator and Hinterberg frame, but it had been used frequently, would you consider it? How "tough" do you think they are? It's almost two hours away, and I don't want to make the trip without intending to buy it. It's owned by a quilt shop owner, so I believe it's been cared for adequately. Thanks.

Is it just for you for personal quilting? Is there a dealer nearby for support? Research what the service requirements are for that machine (i.e. yearly servicing at dealer?, what kind of oiling/maintenance does it require that you can do yourself?). Does the owner has service records for the machine? As long as it's been properly maintained, it will probably be fine, especially if you are just buying it for personal use.

But you really need to go and try the machine. See how it feels for you, since every machine feels different.

Lots of people love these machines and get you comfortable with the longarm experience. There is a Yahoo! group or two that have these. They would have lots of info on these... Good luck!
