I am a leftie and pin from the left... If you are using a 1/4 inch foot with a guide the pin will get in the way sooner than if pinned from the right. Don't forget us lefties are living in a right handed world so we have a lot of obstacles to overcome...

I pin with the head of the pin on the left - how I was taught by mother way back. Head on the left, and cross the seam with the entry and exit points. Of course, she's left-handed (I'm right). But I think, based on responses I've seen here, that the majority who learned to sew clothing were taught to pin left-to-right, regardless of handedness. In reality, I seldom pin. But when I do it makes sense to me to keep the pins on the left - I can pin the bulk of the fabric without worrying about trying to cross that little 1/4" seam - and then the pins are completely out of the way of the needle.

My sister is left-handed and I am right-handed. We do not pin for each other! Yes, you are pinning the left-handed way and I give you permission to continue. :-)

Just my opinion, but I think it's a left-handed thing.....and right for you.

I pin the same as you. I'm a lefty too and it just makes sense to have the pin positioned so that I can remove it before it gets to the needle.

I just don't think there is a "right" way or "wrong" way, I think whatever is comfortable for you is the "right" way.

I pin wrong too ! I'm right handed and I'm not going to change it… lol whatever is comfortable for you is best

I do think it's because you are a leftie, but if it works for you, I would stay with it. I have a friend that pins parallel to the fabric and it seems so weird to me, but it works for her.

I'm a leftie too but I've always done it like in the video, just have, didn't know there was a right or a wrong way LOL
Just one more of the quilt police (sewing police) notions that people take seriously. |
