If there is anyone out there that knows how to start a petition, I wish someone would start one and see if we can get WAL-MART to keep the fabric departments. THANKS P BRACKIN

I just signed the petition, but have little hope it will work. The consumer is seldom heard these days.

penski 11-29-2007 12:28 AM

well i signed a petition and called the main office but i dont think it will help, walmart has there mind set on how they run there business weather or not we like it , so off to Joann fabrics i go

and that is oh how sad

fabricluvr 11-29-2007 05:24 AM

it would be interesting to know how they decide where to have fabric. we have 4 super centers (three were remodeled from the smaller stores) and they all have the fabric/craft centers. there's another store going in just down the road. we'll see about that one.

what bothers me is that jo-ann in our area needs some stiff competition! HL doesn't compete, nor wal-mart. One of the Hancock stores closed so there is only one up north, does have some nice things, just too far!

DonnaRae 11-29-2007 08:56 AM

Well I live in the South, which is Greenville, SC a very southern state, and we have four Wally's Worlds (aka Walmart) and they all still have fabric. But as Loretta said the stores she is near, there is not as much nice fabric. But Walmart was the biggest buyer of Sham. & Sons and they quit buying from them (I think that alot of the nice fabric came from there) and now they went out of business. A lot of people blame Wally World for them going out of business but you know how the old saying goes, don't put all your eggs in one basket. Apparently they depended on Wallyworld's business to survive. Ohhhhh, gab gab gab, and should be sew sew sew, todalu............

ArtquilterNEWWAYtoQUILT 12-01-2007 10:58 AM

:( :? Well we live wayyy down south and they're getting rid of it all as fast as they can and we have complained and told them and Stood on our heads trying to keep Fabric but as they getsc they push out fabrics and believe me it's Not from not selling it cause they have sold LOTS OF FABRICS IN TEXAS and the surrounding states but wm is taking it out inOK, Ks ,NM etc, They don't care and I don't spend as much Money at wm either and some folks refuse to go to wm for ANYTHING!!! I do mean it!! Sooo wm is STUPID for getting rid of fabric, they think we want Party supplies HA HA!! NOT, We don't buy them they had to put the things on clearance and the scrapbook stuff too just too get rid of it,then thesc goes in and now we have 3 HUGE Lanes of this stuff, Wm Where's your Brain at?? And now we are down to the 1 but it's sc is coming real soon so Look Out Fabrics 'll hit the dust.Sooo sad!!!

Don't know if this is true or not but just heard yesterday that when some of the Walmarts to to Super status they will retain the fabric dept. Guess I'll just have to go there and check it out because our WM just went Super recently.

fabricluvr 04-26-2008 02:20 PM

we have a mix in our area. the ones that grew to SC's kept the fabric, one of the ones that was built as a SC carries fabric, and one that was built as a SC (most recently) doesn't carry fabric.

:? who knows -

Janstar 04-26-2008 03:02 PM

I just signed it plus I've complained in person to the store mang.

june6995 04-26-2008 05:25 PM

Today.....April 26, 2008 there are a total of 38,854 signatures on that petition, and for some of us, it has been a big disappointment.

Can you imagine being in busness and having that many customers tell you they want you to give them a service, and turning your back on them?

And Private business would not survive. They would be forced to close.

Does anyone think that at some point in time Wal-mart could fail and fall out of the good graces of the public, and go out of business?

Think of many companies that rose to great heights and later fell so low they went out of business. Seems as though "nothing lasts forever." What about Wal-Mart? Will it last forever?

ours, which just last month went to a SC, lost the fabric department. such a bummer.

Not to mention that, but now they only carry about 5 colors of thread, and one, you read that right, ONE package of universal sewing machine needles. ugh.

robbijmorris 04-27-2008 04:57 AM

All of the Wally worlds in our area have gone Super, and my mom works at the one just south of where we live, in a small town. They all still have fabric departments. Well, the ones here in my town are mor like fabric isles in some of the wall marts, but one or two still have a real department. My mom's store still has one, and she works in it frequently. I ask her on occasion about losing that department, and she says she has not heard one single thing. Who knows? I hope they keep 'em, tho.

I just signed the petition. It was very interesting. I also caught the video of the CEO. It was sort of short and I'm sure taken somewhat out of context, but still interesting s I work at Wallyworld, temporarily. I really hate the job and can hardly wait to quit. I spent three years in a mens max security prison and I do not believe I'll make it three months at Wal-mart. :D And I'm actually being paid a higher wage than at least one man with more experience than I have.

The one just up the road from me was getting pretty low and saying the would be closing the fabric section last year. Then all of a sudden the shelves were full again. I don't know what happened that caused the change though.

ADKer 04-28-2008 08:15 AM

My Walmart (waaaayyy upstate NY) still has a fabric department and I haven't heard anything about them closing. I hope not, cause they have some fabric in their I want to use for a quilt for my mom.

With that said, I hate Walmart. Do I shop there? Yes--once a week. We have other BETTER grocery stores in town, but Walmart is cheap. . . and with me out of work, we can't afford to pay twice as much at Price Chopper and Hannaford. . . . With prices as low as they are, I don't think they could ever go out of business. They force people to shop there--and they care nothing about their customers.

I visited a walmart in Gardner Kansas. The woman cutting fabric said Walmart had a web page and we could complain there. will check this out !!

Wish we all could hold protest signs!! OK, 1960's a long way off but read in a magazine, we quilters are also the generation that did hold protest signs, sounds like this is our cause !

OK, we are fighting a war, my son is Air Force. He made me promise never to protest.. but.. this should be a safe protest !???

We have three Walmarts here in Virginia Beach and only one of them so far has done away with the fabric department. I have also noticed that they are starting to stock much nicer fabric for quilting lately and also the smaller walmart is sporting a quilt of the month pattern with it's coordinating fabrics available. Maybe the petitions are doing some good!

I was just in one of our Walmrt SuperCenters last week..We have 3 in about a 15 mile radius..4 if you bounce out another 10 miles..The 3 I've been to all have a fabric department..The lady (nice woman) working there told me that they are supposed to be losing thier fabric department sometime next year..It sucks..That's really the only thing I got into Walmart for anymore..Our local grocery store has a fuel perks program where we earn money off gas when we buy groceries, so no need to grocery shop there anymore..Hopefully they will reconsider, but it sounds unlikely

chairjogger 07-28-2008 11:42 PM

Linda,
Your note looks to be the only note of hope ! Maybe we need to keep pressure on for a turn around !

Thanks !
Ellen

chairjogger 07-28-2008 11:43 PM

breaks my heart to see the departments dwindle down to a small isle or a few bins in the isle !!

Keep the pressure on ! Linda may have given us hope !

Ellen
