I have to tell you that I lied. NOT ON PURPOSE. I just found out that when we get our new Wal Mart in June of 2010, (super Wal Mart) THERE WILL NO LONGER BE FABRIC. Sooooooooo our choices will be Jo Ann and the quilt store down town. I can't always afford Jo Ann's much less walk into the down town quilt store. REALLY GOING TO MISS THE "bargain place"......
|
Heck. I'm one of those gals that "want it know" and it's really hard for me to pick things out on line. Guess I'll have to learn, huh? Can and "old dog" really learn new tricks????

When the Walmart here closed the fabric dept. the only thing of fabric they sell now is fat quarters of craft quality fabric. A few jellyrolls of silly looking fabric and some fat quarter bundles which are rather nice quality but limited in selection. There is a great assortment of June Taylor rulers and cutting mats. Scissors, needles and other sewing notions but NO thread at all. No floss or crossstitch/embroidery supplies. No patterns. Red Heart yarns and crochet and knitting needles are there. Sewing machines are still sold and random sewing items.
I most of my fabric and thread from Connecting Threads. I really like the quilt sampler packs there. I look for bargain and clearance items at other online shops. |
there are 3 near me and none of them sell fabric anymore, two of them don't sell jellyrolls even. About 30 minutes away another one still has fabric but they are scheduled to remodel in 2010 and their selection has gone way down over the last year. I am lucky that Mary Jo's is about 30 minutes away too. I've bought online from fabric.com, connecting threads, and one other place I can't remember. Its harder to me to match colors online.

You have to ask the craft dept. manager to order the fat quarters, rulers and things from the warehouse. They have a choice of what they can carry in their departments. The craft dept manager here orders everything she can from the list that has anything to do with sewing/quilting.

I am so sorry to hear that your new
Walmart won't be carrying fabric any more!! :( I must say that I have a lot of good luck finding just what I want with online stores. They can have some pretty great sales. Enjoy your Walmart fabric's for as long as you can!! :D :D :D :D :D :D |

We just got the new Super Wal mart in our town. We had a large craft/fabric department in old store. We have one small aisle of crafts in new store. Few ugly fq's,mostly pre packaged craft kits. This is suppose to be how the new stores are. I dont like it.
|
I only had two reasons to go the Wal Mart. One was my feed for my birds ( a macaw and an African Grey ) and to check out the fabric department. Now my fabric is gone and they have discontinued my birds favorite food. Now I will not be going there at all. I can find my bird food on line and buy my fabric at the LQS and the fabric store here. Bye Bye Wal Mart.

we heard that are walmart going out of fabric next year too so i know how you feel i'm only get a monthly pay and its not much so i can't aford a lots either but i'm going to save so i can buy what fabric i can
|
Save to buy the quilting basics that will cost a lot at other places. Like a bolt of good muslin, a bolt of warm and natural, Pellon fusibles, cotton canvas for ironing board covers, THREAD for craft sewing projects, and quilted cotton fabric to use for fast projects like tote bags. Right before the store starts a remodel, the fabric will be marked %50 off everything on a bolt. It will not be advertised so have many friends be on the look out.

I have never bought fabric online before, but I will probably have to learn how. Our walmarts are all but just about phrased the fabrics dept out too. Alco used to have a nice fabric department, but they seem to be phrasing out too! Except for some pretty prepackage yardage material. We do have a store in our area that is ran by the Amish, with tons and tons of fabric! I could go bannas there! I went today and dropped some money! We have lovely fabric stores in the area which I will just have to pay abit more there, I am sure it will be worth it. Just nice to have a choice, so online is a choice. Thanks for the websites!

I like to check out the clearance Isle @ Joanns. I used to find alot there. The coupon helps too. And Loretta is right too

I buy online all the time now.
http://quiltinaday.com She has a large sale section. I buy from many online stores now and have only been buying the 3 dollar a yard sales. It is all first quality and all have been good buys, no problems at all. |
I just got some good news about Wal mart. I went to another town today with a regular Wal Mart and guess what i found. They enlarged their fabric department. I hope they keep it because like I said earlier the super stores ,in my town, no longer carry fabric. I got a real cute chicken print to make placemats. I'm excited.

When Walmart here marked everything 50% to get rid of it in the fabric dep. Shipments of new fabric were still coming in! New bolts still with plastic were being marked 50% off right out of the box. The older Walmarts that still have the fabric dept will get a lot of fabric that is left in the warehouse. When it's gone, no more will be ordered at all. Cranston had to shut down the mill because WalMart did not renew the contract. This is what I was told by a WalMart buyer.

I live up in the montains of northen eastern Ca. An Hour in good weather from any WalMart, JoAnn's or any other Fabric Store. So I Love to shop on line. There are Lots, and Lots of good on line sites. and I have never been disapointed,
|
I was in Walmart today and they had a lot of flannel in and the manufacturer was not Cranston but some other name. It was in the prettiest designs and colors like I had never seen before.
|
I like the fat quarters at Walmart...I'm not looking for entering my quilts in any contest...just making for the love of it and they do have some interesting fat quarters at of course very resonable prices.
|
i truely wish they'd change there mind. i don;'t wanna quit sewing when i run out. :(
|
I had to out of town today and stopped at the Walmart between there and home. This Walmart had fabric and lots of of it. The Christmas. Thanksgiving, and Halloween fabric was being stocked. I bought a lot of craft fabric panels, doorhanging panels, toddler book panels, and a gingerbread apron panel. They were all $4.47 a yard. I love the quick holiday panels. I also bought some very nice Bear Paw cheater cloth that will make great placemats and pot holders.
