Do you use your walking foot for dec stitches? My manual says no but is it really right? Have BabyLock Quilter's Choice.

Making a tablel runner w/fuisble batting..very thin. Pattern is Dresden plate and two fans.

What you pros think. Thought about usind a dec stitch to hold the points down.

I think it depends on your machine, the walking foot and stitches you want to use. I would go by my manual to play it safe. I have used it with some deco stitches but don't have the same machine as you.

If the decorative stitches make your fabric move "backwards" it is not a good idea to use the walking foot because it will not know to move the fabric backwards and will move it forwards as the feed dogs move backwards. This could cause a mess.
I don't use it for any stitch that does that.

So....going side to side MAYBE ok?

I have a stitch on my machine that looks like a zig-zag stitch with several stitches making the zig and zag. I stretch out the stitches and it looks like a wave. I use my walking foot when stitching that stitch. I would think a side to side would work with the walking foot.

I never thought of doing that but I will experiment tomorrow and let you know the results.

Some walking feet will break if you try and stitch backwards.
A design that goes forwards and sideways should be fine, as long as the opening in the foot itself is wide enough for the stitch :D:D:D

I use a Pfaff. The "walking foot" is built in (called IDT) and I use this feature for many of the decorative stitches. I have to make sure the needle clears the foot (of course) and it can be picky if I have too many layers going on. If you are going to try this stitch SLOW and watch the pattern until you are sure you won't knock the machine's timing out of whack.

I've used my walking foot with all of the decorative stitches on my machine without any problems.
