walking foot disaster

I decided to do some simple wavy lines with my walking foot to finish up a project. but.... the project has raw edge applique with a narrow zig zag on the edges. so.... when I was handling the quilt and moving the bulk around, the teeth on the walking foot would sometimes snag on the edges of the applique. Ugh. I'm not so concerned about it, as it was just a miscellaneous side project. But has anyone else had this happen and how do you prevent it. Maybe I was just being too rough?

My walking foot has wide front so it would not snag. You might lay tissue paper on top of your appliqué so it doesn’t snag but that might not allow the walking foot to work properly?

I don't go near the applique when I do the empty spaces. Sorry for this and hope it is OK.

I would stay away from the applique edges.

I use a hopping foot and free motion when going over raw edge. It will sometimes catch but not often.

I don't use a walking foot when appliqueing. I need more control that I can get with the walking foot attached.
