Do I have to use a walking foot to do machine quilting? Can I just use my regular foot with long stitches? I cannot seem to get my walking foot on properly, I have a Janome 3022. I found directions online, still won't work. My dealer is located far away from me. Do I have to use it? :?:

make sure the arm is above the screw that holds your needle and it should work.

They can be interesting to install, but they are worth it.

You would only use your walking foot for straight line quilting. For free motion quilting, you would use a hopping foot (aka Darning Foot or Embroidery Foot). While not impossible to straight line quilt with your regular foot, results may be less than desired. If you are using a thinner cotton batting, it make work. If using a thicker poly batting, I wouldn't attempt it personally.

you know that the walking foot is for straight lines? it's the best thing for keeping the fabric from pleating as you go. did you look for instructions on youtube? it's worth learning to use it. there's no substitute.

check this site. they show a video on whatever you click on. find the right foot and see how they use it.

A regular foot has never worked for me, it will make a mess.
