I've seen many people have a wall in their sewing room that had felt-like stuff on it to hang blocks on for arranging them. How do you do that? That's the one thing I would really like to do in my sewing room. Presently, I have to lay them on the floor until I find the arrangement I like. Thanks for the help!!!

If you go to the top of the page and click on search and search for Design Wall, you'll get pages and pages of info about how people make their design walls.

I made a design wall out of a $3 flannel-ish backed vinyl tablecloth from Wally-World.
By sewing a pocket across the top, I was able to hang it from a tension-rod suspended between my sewing room (former formal living room) & formal dining room.

When I'm not using it, I draw the design wall curtain to the side and voila! Out of the way!

Here's a picture that shows at least part of it!

Fons and porter have a design wall that sells for about $29, they carry it at Joannes, so if you use a 40% off coupon, you can get one at a very reasonable price. I have one and it works really well

There are many ways to make a design board... use just a large piece of flannel cloth pinned to a curtain rod, velcro strips work well too or put on a wall or door frame. What I have at this time is an old door screen panel that we don't use with flannel placed over it and clothes pinned on :) it works and can be moved around wherever! :)

I use the closet door in my sewing room, just covered it with felt and away I go!
Also made one using one of the science fair display board (which you can pick up in Wal-Mart) and covered it with felt. This one I use at Guild meeting retreat or any where else I need a portable.
If you make your own be sure to use a light neutral colour fabric (mine is cream) that way it should not conflict with your fabric colour when you are working out a design.

I also have a flannel back table cloth that I pinned to my wall. It works like a charm! I just place my block on the flannel and voilla! It sticks like magic!

My design wall is REALLY BUDGET....I got a few yards of 60inch fleece...and I stapled it to my wall.
It works...
I love it.
