Wall for hanging rulers, scissors, quilting tools?

For Christmas I've ask my husband to make a board for quilting tools ( rulers, cutters, etc.) in my sewing room. My challenge is to come up with what to use for the board. If anyone has done this, I'd love some ideas. Only thing I can think of is peg board.

By the way, this site has given me so much inspiration and help. I am fairly new to quilting and this is the first place I look at for answers and ideas. Thank you all so much.

Mine is peg board with a simple frame around it and we painted it the wall colour so that it blends in. It works great!

Thanks Lori for you quick response and painting it is a great idea.

I also have peg board for my sewing stuff. 3M command hangers can go on the wall for hanging rulers and someone also used one of the magnetic knife strips for her metal scissors on the wall. I have also seen a towel rod installed on the table edge and hanging hooks put on it for hangings things. If your husband can put up a simple strip of wood on the wall, you can screw in cup hooks for hanging your rulers too.

I would also go with the peg board. It might not be the most attractive thing, but as other posters mentioned, you can dress it up with paint and moldings. The benefit of the pegboard is that you are not locked into a specific configuration. You can move stuff around as needed. The only thing to remember when you install it is it can't go right up against the wall. You need to have little spacers so the hooks have somewhere to go.

I have a pegboard. I painted it and it looks nice. I have seen pegboards with quilt blocks painted on them, like the barns. As Paperprincess said: You have to have a gap between the wall and the pegboard. LOL.

It helps with the peg board if you outline what goes where when you are finished. Keeps things neater and cuter.

Mine is a peg board that I painted to match the walls. You can spray paint your hooks, I found a box of assorted hooks at the hardware, washed them really good, primed them and spray painted them. Now it's a really fun board of goodies. Hang scissors, extra needles, rulers, pkgs. of rotary blades, tape, ribbon, cutters, etc. Just a good place to find whatever I need. Have fun with your board.

I love peg board. So many different things you can hand on it.
