This is the first time for me to do a wall hanging. How big do I make the back pieces for the rod to go through?

Here's a couple of links with info that may guide you.

Are you making a hanging sleve or coners? Hanging sleve yuohave to measure the wall hanging.

I make my sleeve to finish about 2 inches shorter than my finsihed quilt size by 4 inches finished. I put a sleeve on everyting a make. I put it on with the binding. I also make it from the same fabric as the backing. You never know when someone is going to ask to hang your quilt at a show or meeting. This way I am ready and not rushing to put one on last minute.

Like I mentioned earlier this will be my first wallhanging. I have a tinkerbell panel that I want to make for one of my grandaughters for her birthday. Unfortunately today is her birthday. So much has been going on in my house lately that this is one gift I have fallen late on. I am going to start working on it today. Since this is my first one I am going to just do some quick quilting to it. Will post a picture when I am finished. Also you do use low loft batting for wall hangings don't you?
