I just got back from Walmart. Checked out the fabric section of course, noticed they have been thinning it out quite a bit. Then I saw thier batting, they had the poly high loft and low loft King/Queen all marked down from 11.98 to 5.00. They also had the cotton batting full size marked down to 5. They had the poly high and low loft full also at 5. Needless to say I had to check out and go to my car and empty my buggy so there would be room for food (which is what I went for) lol. I have gotten into using the cottton batting but they only had 3 of them left, I snatched up all 3 of those and then enough of the other to keep my mom and I stocked for awhile. I asked the girl there if they were closing fabric out and she said they would be remodeling next year and if it's going to get phased out it will happen then. She said all the other stores in this region have phased it out when it came thier turn to remodel. Our JoAnn's closed, I have a Hancocks and 2 other Walmarts close enough to shop at, one of them is brand new and has the "mini" sewing dept., the other one is older I don't know when or if they plan to remodel. Regardless, I have my batting stocked up! :D

The laast time I was in my walmart , I noticed it looked a little lean on fabric. The ladies told me they are losing a few fabric lines but have many more new one they are bringing in. There are not many notions and out a bit of batting but it sells a lot of fabric, so looks like it is staying
:D

My Wal-Mart near me is not closing the fabric dept, but they are in the process of building s super Wal-Mart just across the street, so I wonder if it will be phased out then. Stinky Walmart.

:D Wow! I'm going to Walmart! The one in St Augustine, Fl is very good. I got a lot of fabric when we were down there in Nov. They said they were keeping their stock but I'm not sure of the one near my home in MI?? You DO have to be careful of the fabric, though. i got some that ended up being very hard to work with & I could really see the difference from the quilt shop fabrics! I'm starting to 'haunt' the sales racks in the quilt shops & get better stuff! If you're going to put all that work into something, you should use the best materials you can afford. You CAN get some good stuff there but be careful! Just a tip: I have been getting 100% cotton thread from"Connecting Threads" It is Egyptian cotton & NOT 'fuzzy'. It's on sale now for$1.59 for 1200 yds, size 50. Satin finish. Very good buy, lots of colors! Happy sewing!! I just had surgery on my shoulder so won't be sewing sant time soon but can't wait to get back! Will make me work harder in therapy! haha!

I too just came from Wall Mart and all of them here in the Tucson have stopped selling material and batting but one. They too are going to phase it all out and we do have quilting stores, but they charge an arm and a let for this stuff and your first born to boot. I know they things that are sold at the fabric quilt stores is better, but when you are just learning and want to practice on things, I sure don't want to spend 9 or 10 dollars a yard for this stuff. Today and bought the rest of the ream of the soft and natural batting for 2.74 a yard and paid about 12 dollars for the balance and I bought one piece of 36X36 craft size for 5.00 at the quilting store.

Anyway, I just had to put my two cents in and wish Wall Mart would not stop selling this stuff!!!!

That dog is adorable!!!!!! I want one!!

I checked our Wal-Mart yesterday; no markdowns  I did stop at Hobby Lobby, tho and found 2 Queen size Hobbs for 11.99 ea and 1 twin Mountain Mist for 9.99 :D

Joanns has their bolt Warm & Natural batting half price this weekend (4.99/yd) - if its 108" wide that makes it about $15 for a Queen size cut.

The good thing about Hobby Lobby is if you know your going to go shopping there, get thier 40% coupon out of the sunday paper (it's in every sunday paper here where I live), thats when I purchase something that might be a little pricey, I got a great quilting book 40% off the last time I went, and have used it on fabric purchases before to.

I went ot walmart in Logan Ohio and there is not a fabric section at all. No one could help me with trying to get batting. Now there is nowhere around here to get it.
When walmart came in here it caused lots of stores to close down. Joann fabrics being one of them.
Now we can't buy fabric, or batting for a reasonable price.
Such a shame. We have to travel about an hour etither way we go to buy fabric or batting.

Looks like a good day to go shopping!

If you can find the Fairfield Traditional batting, it's very good. I use it when I don't use cotton. Walmart here is closing out the fabric dept. this week. Everything was 50% off. I got bolts of the VIP Select fabric for quilt backing. If you can find the VIP Select 100% cotton it is quilt shop quality. The regular VIP is the lesser quality. It will say Select on the bolt end.

One of our Walmarts here in GA. is going to remodle and last week their fabric went half price. I got about $40.00 to $50.00 dollars worth. When I got home I relized that I should have gotten a couple more yards of what I had gotten. Least to say that I have been sick and didn't make it back until today and what I was looking for was gone. Oh well, I did spend about another $20.00 though. Now we have 2 stores left around here and a third one that has a small fabric area than what they had a couple years ago. So I think these stores will be will phasing out within the the next year.
