Well, I found out this week that my Wal-Mart is doing away with our fabric dept. too when we start our remodel in August. They are marking it all down already to 25% off. I got a few things the other night. The one good thing about being a manager there is I will know when they mark it down further because I am friends with the dept. manager. I intend to stock up as much as I can.

You picked some nice colors. Our Wal-mart closed our fabric dept a year and a half ago. They did the remodel and still have sewing machines some notions and tons of those silk flowers. If they can keep the silk flowers I surly don't know why they didn't keep the fabric............. :(

Pretty pretty! I'm sorry you're losing your fabric department!

great choices! i should go see what i can find.

we're lucky to have three wal-marts (out of 6) that still have fabric. had an interesting conversation with the fabric manager one day and she said that so far they are planning to keep the fabric departments in those three stores, that she's really had to do some fast talking though.

she also said that each fabric dept does their own ordering from their own vendors. so you may not/won't see the same stuff in the different stores. she must do a good job ordering if she's been able to convince them she's profitable and should stay!

So cool..... So far our Walmart still has fabric... In fact I made my first quilt with some of your fabrics

I for one think that Wal-Mart has some lovely fabrics and can't understand why the fabric department has to close in favor of tires. (yea, that's what I heard......) My advice to you to make the most of the mark downs, I bet you will get some real "deals". There is discussion but no formal plans of our Wal Mart expanding so I just feel lucky....for now anyway

this is interesting because our newest store has party goods (three wide-open aisles), but really yucky scrapbooking/paper crafting stuff (although i just read this morning that they are putting out martha stewart paper crafting stuff).

i scrapbook, too, and was really sad to see all of the good stuff go away with the building of the new stores.

I am going to miss Walmart sewing centers! A new "neighborhood" store opened close enough for me to get there by ADA scooter. Has groceries but no fabric. The craft isle is HUGE.. Some threads but the fabric is not there and has already dissappeared from our nearest big Walmart. I have be driven 30 miles away for fabric!
Good idea !

I dont understand the trend that all the stores have.
They all tend to have nothing but young people stuff.
I cant find clothes anymore that are suitible for older folks.
Yet it is a fact that there are more older people than young and we have more income so whats the deal?
