Hey ladies, just checked; the show in Wilmington is June 22-24 (Fri thru Sun). Is that too far off? I could drive to Wilmington that Sat and we could meet at the show and have a great day :D
In the meantime, I'll be saving up so I can shop till I drop. I work in construction and we start longer days next week which means overtime for me. I've always wanted to go to that one, but usually find out about it after the fact.
I am xcited about putting faces with names and think it would be great fun. Hope the date is not too far away. If so, we could do it sooner. :-)

I always find out after the fact too. How did you know there was one here? That sounds fine with me. It'll give me time to finish my quilt and save enough money to start a new one.

My boys are 35 and 38. My youngest is getting married on the 17 of March, so I have hope to be a Grandma yet. Don't you give up hope either.

I just typed in the search bar "quilt show Wilmington NC and clicked on the one about "Quilters by the Sea" which is the name of the guild. :-)

Yes, JUNE, I can make my own designs. I have small heart pans I would bake 3 or 4 cakes with (depending on how the fit), then put those together at the point and go from there. I'm very creative. MimiSharon is making an ICE form from the pan, though. That might be a bit trickier! :lol: Thanks for the advice. i would like to see the pictures sometime of yours.

About the Wilmington show, June 22-24....rewind me three years ago to those days, and I was in Wilmington at that time. We stayed on Paradise Island from June 17-24. We were all over the place in that area that week! LOL! We went to several beaches (mostly Carolina Beach), went to a zoo that we enjoyed, visited the aquarium, and we toured the battle ship. When we were in downtown historical Wilmington, I'd hoped to see something or place I recognized from the filming of the show Dawson's Creek. I didn't know where to look, and I didn't find any information about it. Oh, well.

And, yeah, I think you're right...we're no longer on the topic of our discussion! LOL! funny how we got to Wilmington from Wal-Mart!

We have a Screen Gems studio near the airport. They do most of filming there. They do film around town from time to time. It's a headache tho because they block off streets and you have to find another way of getting home. I've been here 17 years now and the only thing I've seen is the zoo and that was pretty skimpy. The ocean makes me nausus and I burn easy. But I do love the weather here. I've only seen it snow here once in the last 17 years and that's the way I like it. The huricanes can get bad sometimes.

I am very discouraged that WalMart has chosen to eliminate the fabric in Bemidji, MN. They retained the fabric in Thief River Falls and that store is not very good. They do not have a good selection and noboby knows what they are doing.

I was told in Bemidji that we were not to call WalMart about this because they would not answer the phone. What is going on?

Even though there are 2 fabric stores in town, I almost always bought my fabric at Walmart because of the Quilt of the Month and the fabric to go with it.

One of the fabric stores in Bemidji has raised their fabric to about $10.00 a yard with the least cost being about $3.49.

Hope this makes you feel better :) Over here if I'm really lucky, I can get fabric on special at Spotlight for $8 a metre, got to watch the quality on some of it though. They also have a $10 - $20 range which is usually better.

Other option is fabric from specialty stores $20 - $26 p/m for ranges like RJR, Moda etc. Batiks are about the same price range. But you can pay a lot more if you want a certain thing. I've seen fabric retailing at $40 p/m, needless to say I didn't come home with any of that :lol:

I have a lovely lady who does hand dyed stuff for me at $10 p/m and that is very reasonable compared to other fabric prices here.

Yvonne, I totally agree with everything you said. If I had to shell out $130. for every quilt I made, they would be few and far between.

I don't think some people understand that many of us live on limited incomes and we are able to do what we do because of Walmart and Joanns.

The quilt on my bed is deliberately made with all Walmart fabrics (except the GORGEOUS toile on the back!). I started it about 4 1/2 years ago, after reading and article about Cranston/VIP and how they strongly support their military reservist personnel. Not only do they make up the financial differences for their deployed workers, but they support the families and are generally good military supporters. My son was in the army at the time, stationed in Korea, and this really touched me. It's hard to find Made-in-America fabric, but Walmart carries it!

I am from Kingfisher ok our walmart is closing the fabric dept. I work there it became very clear to me that our cards and letters have landed on deaf ears. We are a rural community, county fairs, 4 H, clubs, quilting classes, kids programs at school, home ec classes,,,, just to name a few that are really going to be hurt by the closings. We are moving to new store in Sept of this year I kept hoping and praying that our store would go un harmed but alass it didn't as of Friday Aug 24 2007 our entire fabric dept all cut by yard goods went 50% off of course the response was overwhelming the manager was told I guess sales are up because as we have been told the reason for the closings "no body sews any more" the response I got was "well it is because it was on sale" So why can't we keep the fabric depts and run a 25% off every month would still be making a profit We are located an hour from any other town so you can see the hardship it puts on our community. The man that needs to hear comments is Lee Scott at bentonville arkansas

I have read with great interest about Walmart and fabric quality. We still have our walmart fabric for now. How long??????? I have had the same discussion about quality with many of my quilting and sewing friends. I think quality is a judgemental thing. It depends on your goal. I have sewn clothing for years both for customers and myself. I have some clothes that lasted for years. How boring. When I got into quilting, I started with cost as my main objective. I use whatever fabric catches my eye. I don't quilt heirlooms. I quilt for fun and relaxation. If my quilts last ten years, fine. If not, what's the harm. I made one heirloom baby quilt. Veeeery expensive. It's lovely but I'm not going to let a baby drool, spit up or otherwise on it. It's tucked safely in the cedar chest. My cheaper quilts are all in view on my beds, my children's beds and soon, my grandchildren's. I do buy fabric on the internet and wait for the sales. I've never been disappointed. Our ASG group often has fabric exchanges. You'd be surprised what we use. One man's junk is another man's treasure. O.K. I'm off my soapbox!

i totally agree. my first quilt was a twin size for my grandson. bought from a quilt shop and it ended up costing me over $125. just for fabric.
i wouldnt be able to do much quilting if i had to save my pennies to pay those prices. would love to be able to do it, but just can't.

Why do the Walmart people think we do not need the fabric department? The only place to get fabric in some areas is Walmart.

Since the first owner passed on, the left overs do not seem to care as much for the peolpe as did their relatives. :(
