want to make a dresden plate

I'd like to make a wall hanging with a dresden plate and can't find any directions online to make one without a special tool. Is there any way to make one without the tool (I know it will be more difficult but funds are going to be low for a bit). Any help would be great!

Pop over to http://www.craftsy.com sign up for their free block of the month class and this month's block is a dresden plate. If you are going to make your blades 4 or 4.5" there is a template to make one out of template material or cardboard included in the course materials you can print out. Hope that helps.

I made this one from a pattern I got off of McCall's website. I just printed off the pattern and transferred it to a piece of cardboard, and started cutting. I think if I were to do it again, I would use one of those thin plastic cutting mats to make a template out of.

This is where I got the pattern from.

Also Quilters Cache has a free pattern that includes the template

I made a Dresden plate quilt without any rulers and wrote up a tutorial. I hope you find this helpful.

This quilt is beautiful. I have trouble with mine laying flat. Do you use something on the back to stablize your blades?
