I just got two large packs of fabric in the mail today. My question is to those whot wash their fabric before making your quilt . Do you was them in warm or cold water?

Warm or hot water, it depends... Hand dyed, batiks, reds, blues and blacks all get hot water as they seem to me to have the most tendency to bleed and I want to make sure it all comes out :wink: The rest using warm, as most of the time this is how they will be washed once the quilt is finished.

By the way Iam very pleased with the shop's service and price . They had all but one on sale. The store is The Quited Castle. i think it is a small family owned business.

I don't use vinegar but many on here do. I have used Retayne on some fabrics and it works well.

I will have to go and see them the next time I am in Portland :D:D:D

I wash in warm water and put the fabric in the dryer. I serge the cut edges before I wash it so it doesn't fray. I use Retayne on the hand dyes and batiks to set the dyes.

Where do you buy Retayne? My LQS doesn't have it.
